Headlight Bulb Upgrade

   What are the bulbs used in all the new, more pricey cars such as Lexus', Range rover's, Audi's etc etc..
   
   They shine really bright white/blue..
   
   Is there a kit on the market to enable me to have these instead of my standard bulbs? How much are they and are they easy to fit?
   
   Any info would be great as I think the standard bulbs just look too yellowie!!
   
   Saw them on a 106 last night and looked really good.

   They are gas discharge lights. There are quite a few laws governing them however as there so bright and potentially dangerous due to there glare. They can only legally be fitted to type approved type “D” headlights that a “E” marked with the “D”. They also require auto aiming units to ECE standard to reduce glare. As well the require auto washing systems again to ECE standards. It is against the law to use retrofit bulbs to convert “BS” or “E” marked type “H” headlights with gas discharge bulbs.

   I don't really know alot about lights but wouldn't want anything illgeal on my car.

   Any gas discharge (HID) bulb can only be “E” approved for use in a type “D” headlight. These bulbs are modified to fit in a type “H” headlight. They are not approved for this application and in so it is illegal to use them as such on the road. ISO has no relevance and is just there to try and mislead. Another common one is quoting DOT approval that again in the UK has no relevance.    Get some MTEC bulbs, they are very good value for money and made in Japan so wont go wrong.

    Mieran, what's the difference between those and the kit on the hid-direct website as those are like £11 and the ones on the website are £75. I know the ones on the website is a full conversion kit so i'm guessing that will be of better quality?

    The ones for £11 are halogen bulbs so straight swap to the originals.
    
    The £75 kits consist of bulbs, ballasts and all the wiring you need. They will be much more brighter so if you were gona buy them you will have to adjust your headlights to VERY low otherwise you'll end up blinding everyone.

    Is there a huge amount of difference between the £11 bulbs and the £75 kit? I mean, I would obviously get the kit adjusted as I wouldn't want to blind other vehicles but if the bulbs look pretty similar, I would rather get them as they would be legal, would be easier to fit and wouldn't need adjusting.

    At the end of the day normal bulbs from a good manufacturer are more than enough brightness for road driving.
    
    No point wasting your money on bulbs that will piss people off, and have potential to get you pulled & fined.

    get some angel eyes and they can be point higher as far as im aware, and then if they are still not bright enough get some 80/100 xenon bulbs!
    HID's are cool but bit on the risky side, the problem you have is the saxo lights dont fire far enough into the road!
    I have 100w xenons and it still doesnt help!

    get the HID kit with high/low beam, yes there technically illegal but if u get the 6k bulbs i dont see how there any more annoyin than 100w bulbs from halfords, the HID kit is alot better quality and brightness and worth the money, and itll look like new expensive cars etc.. which just halogen bulbs alone wont, ive got the 8k kit from HIDS-direct and its easy to install and imo its a very gd kit. dont worry bout the law crap because alot of people dont know there illegal in the real world and there e-marked so most people believe there legal for a car like a saxo but its upto you.

    If your going to put any effort or want a good result from changing bulbs etc hids is the answer. I tried all these ultra bright bulbs etc before, got hids recently and such a difference love them.

    Just to let you know i have got xenons in my saxo and have not been pulled over once, not saying there not illegal or legal or whatever just the fact that i cant see police being that bothered, i brought mine for around £50 and are quality and really easy to fit if you are even looking at buying some anymore lol
