hi evryone have come across a superchip for a saxo vtr and wanted to know what they look like as ive never seen 1, the lad thats got it says it cost him over around £300 and he has receipt to prove it, the pick looks like its a proper chip and with receipt to prove i'm tempted to buy but jus wanted your thoughts on it, i know there loads of fake "superchips" about and i can confirm its not some daft resistor or any thing, best way to describe is it looks like and old computer cartridge game if you know what i mean? any help appreciated
saxo vtr superchip

#2chips imo are not really worth the cash
proper chips will do a little for performance but there not really brilliant
tbh for the price a mild cam is a better option -
#3i totally agree with you mate, the chip jus pretty much the same as remap for what you get but for the price its bein offerd i beleive its worth the money, jus trying to see if it is a legit chip? getting my car cammed was what ive been looking to do nex then a remap but if this chips legit its guna be alot cheaper then the cam, the lad reckons its a 10-15 bhp increase but im only really expectin anything between 6-11bhp
-
#4yes but a remap is a much better option as its suited to your car specifically where as a chip is just a basic change and may not suit the mods you have
-
#5so you dont think its worth it at all?, all i have performance wise is induction kit, 4 branch and straight through system, was going for cams then a remap but this has popped up, what would be the most you'd pay for it?
-
#6tbh i wouldnt bother id just wait for the cams and map
not sure what id pay as ive never looked into the costs once id read up on what they do -
#7i would not do it mate, i would take the car to super chips and for 290 quid you can get a map and everything installed as well as a dyno run, althogh this is not the best way to do this. your far better off getting a live map of the ecu done but it is a bit more expensive at about 450- 500 quid
-
#8normaly about the same price as a remap as far as i remeber, been a wile since ive heard about them, just know not alot of places do them anymore with the remap being safer and so becoming a more popular option
-
#9i think the remap option is the safer option as the ecu does not have to be opened up and a chip soldered in as a proper map of the ecu can be done by throgh the diagnostics port on the saxos/106s
-
#10i would go remap anyday over a chip
its tailored to your car so therefor better -
#11thats the funny thing ive always beleived that the chip gets soldered into ecu but this "superchip" looks like a games cartridge that plugs into something?
-
#12anyone seen anything like this before?
-
#13no mate, the chip is something like a 10mm black rubber sqare with small prongs on it that gets soldered into the ecu where a new map can be installed throgh the dianostics port and there is no soldering required
-
#14lol i might just be reading that wrong as im still recovering from a 2 day drink bender and am tryin to find it hard to get my head round readin thing lol but does that say it gets soldered in but no soldering is required?^^^^
-
#15hi there matey i think you are referring to the chip on ebay yes, luks like its a chip u can remap, just plugs in
-
#16lol ai its looks like so haha, been doin searches to try and find out what it is and a goolgle search lead me to a thread from here which i read from the 19th, must be the lad thats selling it, never mind cams it is lol cheers for all the help evryones put up tho
-
#17re map of ecu- can be done through diagnostics port.
chipping a car- generic map loaded onto the chip and it gets soldered into the ecu -
#18camco in warrington fit these and they dont even use a rolling road or anything else while doing any of there mods, 2 minute job and 300 quid for them, and 300 quid loss and no extra performance for you
rename them to gaychips or moneyrobbers -
#19I was also confused whether to install superchip on my auto to program the hp for plug and play purposes. Its still a little expensive as of now. ECU Remapping is still the best option to test the cars fuel efficiency, performance and ease of driving.Quote:

#21Wow I remember making this thread

Blast from the past!,
The lad in question was offering it as a live map which is why I asked, I got more info from him not long after this, was claimin it was a live map (emulated tune) where he accEssed the ecu directly
Told me he'd map it fr the cams etc when I got it sorted but couldn't provide any proof of his work etc
Did say it was on an RR but the car had to be left with him to perform the mapping, so I didn't believe him
Someone used the search
-
#22I thought you had been sax-p fraped when I first saw this thread lol
-
#23Lol yeah I didn't know a massive amount about chip tuning back then, just that majority were crap and only a few did proper tuning, and that live remapping was better
As it turns out, the dude was allegedly and employee of some chip tuning place and was trying to get cash in hand jobs
Hence having to leave the car there, but it all just seemed a bit too dodgey, especially when he originally tried to sell me it as if he were a customer that was re selling
-
#24Lol that sounds way too dodgy..... cash in hand, leave your car there etc, no way I'd of left it with him lol
But on the other hand, this bump has reminded me, that it's pretty amazing just how much you can learn in such a short space of time on here.... In your case from asking questions about chip tuning a couple of years ago to what you know now haha1 user thanked this post: -
#25Yeah I've probs learned more in the last 4 years about all aspects of life then I have the whole time I was at school
Mechanical side of things I already had good knowledge of through my dad and stuff I'd done before, but ecu and electrical side of things I didn't know too much about
I did actually cam the car about 2 months after this iirc? -
#26Shitty phone always double posts when I got no signal :/
-
#27Snap..... I've probably learned more on this site (in general not just on saxo's) in the time I've been on here than I ever did in school, and will probably continue to learn something new every day on here
I bet you boosted the vtr not long after putting a cam in it too lol
-
#28lolzzzzz o'rly sir1 user thanked this post:

#29The kit was bought for my amazon vtr.. That's the one I cammed
Wish I still had it
-
#30dont do it, rolling road remap ftw
-
#31I think he might of made his decision a short while ago mate.....
