Important! : Heat wrapping manifolds 4-2-1

  1. #1
    done a search answerd a couple of my questions but have a couple more. I noticed that some people say they use clips when wrapping what sort of clips are these and do they stay on the manifold at all times even when fitted, so are they metal and do you all think it is a good idea to wrap seems to be differnt views on this. Cheers
    quick edit :- also i noticed somone say they used 50 meters to wrap a 4-2-1 manifold, does this seem right or did they mean 50 feet, as 50 meters is around 150 feet seems a lot

    If you're running a fair amount of power, then it will make a small difference, otherwise, safe yourself the money, time and effort.

    The clips will remain on, as they are holding the wrap in place. Visit Kam's site if you want to buy some, they're not expensive.

    50 meters would be incorrect. 50 feet seems correct, but that would probably be for 1 inch wide wrap. You get wider versions, so you wouldn't need such a great length in that case.

    wrapping a mani looks smart thats about it really (i have mine wrapped n dont really notice it)

    50ft and a few clips will be needed
    i used 2 inch wide wrap for mines

    I pack of the 1 inch (50ft) is not quite long enough to do one manifold all the way to the end, you will be left with a few inches bare.

    is heatwrap really worth the money and effort? ino it keeps heat in which makes the gases flow better and it keeps the hot air from escaping into the engine bay but is it really worth it?

    Agreed ^ ^ I used a 50ft roll 2" wide and had a small amount left over - this was to wrap a 4 -1 manifold.

    Can it be done with the manifold already fitted? I really don't want to take it back off just to bandage it up...

    Dont wrap an unpainted manifold or it will just rot away, and use this sealant on the wrap after to stop it from coming loose and fraying with wear and tear;

    Its about a tenner on ebay.

    I recommend jubilee clips because you can nip one end of the wrap down as your doing it to get a nice tight wrap. Also wetting the wrap gets it on tighter and stops you from itching from the fibres.

    it wont on a stainless mani ste

    plus wraping mild steel can cause craking so thats what usually fails on them not rust
    the silicon stinks when you start running the car dont it lol
