How would people rate this set up

  1. #1
    Pugsport Gravel Dampers
    Group N top mounts
    faulkner 225'lb springs
    Blistein Grp N Rear dampers

    Compared With

Blistein Grp N Dampers + Faulkner Springs all round (155lb spring from kam)

Which would be better for handling? how do people rate pugsport stuff? I plan to do a few trackdays in 2009 so my aim is to get handling top notch.

best to change the rear if your doing alot too the front mate.

The first set up would be better in a fashion. The spring rate all depends on personal feel. need to test and find what you prefer. Bushes are imporant aswell mate. To be fair theres alot to think of if your going for top notch handling.

what sort of budget are you working on for the handling?
  4. #4
well i got a chance to get the top set up pretty cheap, by no means will it go on now, ill put it on with braces and bushes allround. i do drive my car on the road but im only on springs atm and the ride is poor to say the least, id love a harder ride lol. Just didnt know about pugsport stuff tbh. rear will have a refurb with thicker torsion bars and arb eventually aswell.
    So pugsport are people thinking?

Spring rate will also depend on the tyres you are using.

If you have a low profile (195/40r16 for example) you will need a slightly lower rated spring, whereas VTR rims on 185/55s will require harder springs

As aron said it's also about personal ride preference. I like mine hard, but that is a fairly poor effort on pot hole filled roads, on track it's a different beast altogether

Both seem like top quality setups, but I would imagine budget also comes into the equation???

they are good quality mate but do need a descent set of springs! stick with gravels use using high spring rates

Not sure really. im in no hurry so if i cant afford somthing ill wait till i can, if you get my drift, want some good stuff really
ive totaled up both and there is literally £17.68 difference in the two, thats why im torn between them

need to find the springs and bars matched up. then what size arb's you use kinda depends on personal taste. dont cut corners on the imporant parts like bushes top mounts etc etc
  9. #9
So if i had the 225lb springs what would i be looking at to get the bars matched at the back
  10. #10
would definatly need a thicker torsion to stop rear twitching.

The top setup is a high end top of the range setup which imo wont be any good on the road due to the harsh front springs and the hard torsion bars you will have to run to get the setup matched. If its an out and out track car then this setup would be spot on really. If its a road car which is going to see the occasional trackday then the second option is definately the best. Abit too soft for out and out track work but its a great compromise for the road. I have this exact setup and on the road its great! Did a trackday with it just the other day and it was brilliant.

Thanks for the help people, i know what you saying dibz but i will eventually be using this car as an out and out track car, but it gets used on the road while im finding my feet with a new job.
i will probs be getting the top set up saturday. Well the front dampers, springs and top mounts, then the rear at the end of the month. but you lot may have to wait a few months for it to be fitted as i wont put it on piece by piece it will all go on in the same weekend and that includes thicker torsion bars and bushes all round, and ive got tax + mot to get through in a couple of months time.
    Thanks again, for you help

225 isn't that stiff! yes it will be a little harsh but you will be fine. Would have thought 21mm would be fine for the bars
  14. #14
iirc dannygti has 225 springs and standard bars and it's fine
also 225 ok yea it's stiffer than most but it wouldn't be too hard to live with

i'm looking around 200lb for my 106 which is a daily

really it's down to what you want from the car and what ride charecteristics you want

    fecking phone

At the end of the day its all down to personal preference. I know i wouldnt want 225lb springs on a car that gets used on the road 95% of the time...
  17. #17
surely if you went the first option you would want to get bigger torsion bars?

group n rears over dampen the standard bars dont they?

its the reason ive never gone group n on rear
  18. #18
Yes i will be getting bigger torsion bars eventually
  19. #19
if you stiffen up the front you may want to consider a larger rear ARB
