bike carbs......

was looking for some options to do summin differnt to my saxo and came across a thread on here mentioning it but it was kinda ruled out as it "would be to hard to do" so if i wanted to fit bike carbs to a vtr preferably of a newer bike so an ingection model would i still use my ecu and injectors ? would i have to have a new ecu and have that remaped ? making an inlet manifold looks the hardest bit tbh ? .... but what would it involve doing to actually get bike carbs running on a vtr. cheers

you would want to be using a standalone ecu and have it mapped accordingly, otherwise you will prob end up in no end of troubles and problems.

if you have a look around a few people have gone down the bike throttle body route, you can pick up a set of bike TBS including injectors fuel rail etc for about £100 on ebay depending on condition etc etc, but most likely youd want to source your own injectors to run best with your engine.

a guy called sandy on 106oc/ssc can make your inlet for you, at around £225 iirc. You send him the parts and he will custom fabricate to make it plug n play! id budget around £1000 for everything depending on bargains and the ecu you choose

    hope this helps

as above but i reckon youd ned more like £1500
    £1000 for the bodies
£500-600 for aftermarket ecu maybe a predator

okay so i would need bike carbs r6 ? r1? or similar ? could i use the standard injection rail and injectors ? a fabricated maifold and some form of reprogramable ecu ? i know thats a fairly simple list of what i would need but would liek to try and understand what i would need to do to acheive it..... would there be much to gain from doin it ? apart from the fantastic sound sorry for all questions

gsxr 1000 k2-bodies iirc for the sandy brown inlet

woa that was a quick responce so would it be worth doing ? would i see much gains in performance ?

then again im thinking for a vts your best to join rally re and contact sandy yourself im sure he will be more than happy to help you as hes a cool guy!

£1000 im think is abit ott for bike bodies tbh, you may as well join the group buy on jenveys for that price.

You will be paying less then £500 for the bodies, and IIRC from a post from sandy, £225 for the inlet.

Also you will get a fuel rail and injectors etc with your bodies mate ( some will come without tho, so just check)

there is a set for sale in the forsale section atm, but thats for a VTS, the guy wants £300 for the bodies and the inlet, bargain imo

more worth wacking a valver in there tbh! buit if you wanted to stay with that set up and keep the 8 valve a good way to generate power would be :
high lift cams and some headwork-frankie has some brand new ones for sale on here
4 branch mani - depending on your budget
    ecu+ bodies

cost you big money and would be fun but yur best getting a vts lump put in there for cheap money to power ratio

think im going to look into it wouldn really trust ebay with buying an engine tbh and not really sure where else i would source one ? just trying to get an idea of my options and then chose the route to go down.... atm im still tempted by the bike carbs and cams etc over droppin a vts lump in...

aaa cheers for that link (Y) so after ive got my manifold and carbs sorted all i would need is to get an ecu sorted and mapped ? and set up on a roling road ?
  13. #13
you would need a different ecu as they wont run properly on a standard one best for price/performance is probably predator look on the affiliates section on here mate
  14. #14
dont think their is a pred ecu built for your car at the min mate!

look into an omex or something similar

thing is you arent goign to use bike carbs you would be using bike injection throttle bodies try not to get onfused biek carbs of eary model bikes dont use injection so you would need to get the carbs re jetted to suit the vtr, and you would need a spark only ignition system, i dont think they do a saxo version with a dizzy that runs of the crank(correct me if wrong) so if you wanted to use CARBS you would need something to spark only, if you wanted injection throttle bodies then yer ideall you want standalone really whatever your going to do for a significant bhp increase your goign to be looking at a stand alone... if i was you and you want to do something different put a set of webbers on it
