Difference in struts?

Got a 98 mk1, im pretty sure the struts from a 2000 mk2 wont fit on it. but cant remember exactly. anyone like to clear this up for me? what is the reason they dont fit?

I think they would fit - the only difference is potentially the taper on the wheel bearing.

The strut itself I think should be fine to fit - aslong as your driveshaft end, matched the wheel bearing (tper vs. non-taper)

oh yeah i remember someone told me that it twas just a driveshaft problem. hmmmm, may be able to save a bit of money if they fit. have to wait and see. any more comments apreciated.

2000 mk2's used mk1 90bhp engines... so might use the same running gear ie driveshafts etc???

The only difference would potentially be the bearing depending on which driveshafts are used (tapered, non tapered as mentioned above) these vary though so you might find that the 2 you have could be the same regardless of being off a mk1 or mk2 vehicle.

If they are different you could get a new bearing for £15 and get someone to press it in so that it matches

Everyone here is exactly right, the bearing where the shaft enters the hub will most likely be different, just check the shaft and compare it to the hub.
