which is better, iv been told by a number of people that a ecu is better for a saxo vts, but then by the same amount of people iv been told that gettin it chipped is. which one?
chip or ecu re-map

#2a remap is better as its suited to your mods where as a chip is generic kinda thing
however its not nessecery unless you have a reasonable spec (cams ect) -
#3it needs to be 'chipped' it to remap it, tbh, most people talk shit lol, depends where you get it 'mapped' or 'chipped' to whether its good.
-
#4mine wasnt chipped when it was mapped
just plug in and alter the perameters of the map
no putting chips in the ecu -
#5was it like a superchip? where they just download maps, then write a new map and download that? not actually mapping the ecu, but looking at results, creating new map with corrections on it then downloading it via OBD to ecu?
-
#6was a map by wayne at chipwizards
base run on dyno
plugs his laptop in and adjusted the map
ran on dyno
tweaked map
ran again
ect ect ect....
did the same with the timing too on my cams
i do believe its called live mapping or something like that -
#7he'll just of been flashing a new map to it. he puts an eprom chip into the single plugs though.
dont know what he uses to solder the chips in but i removed 1 and took me ages to desolder it, legs are tiny. -
#8didnt know he did on the single plugs
i wanted a standalone (still do) but my car was running rough so got a map -
#9yours 3 plug? does it hesitate sometimes at about 1.5k rpm? mine does and a couple other 3 plugs he has done does it.
-
#10it was yea
its got no ecu atm (and its getting a custom loom for an omex later this year)
not had any problems with hesetation on mine
even down low revs it pulled like a train -
#11mine hesitates sometimes and 1.5k
-
#12ah man thats odd
not heard of any hesitation yet
glad i was in here tbh as i have a sngle plug ill be maping next year and didnt know itud need opening up
ah well at least i know in advance -
#13ive seen a few thats been tapped up after he mapped them. so presuming thats the reason they have come back tapped up.
-
#14yea well will be finding out soon lol
see what he makes of the dodgy setup ill be taking there -
#15whats that?
-
#163plug engine on a sungle plug loom with a bits like the sump swapped over ect to keep all the sensors on the single plug loom lol
lower mileage swap on a 106 gti
plus there ph3s in the motor and its got an xsi gearbox on it too
bonus
-
#17Mines a single plug and wayne didnt do any soldering or taping - just a map onto the ecu
-
#18thinking back he dd ask if i wanted a chip or a map on mine
so might depend what you ask for as to what he does -
#19wayne didn't do a dyno run on mine before putting a map on, so i dont know what difference he made which was dissapointed. paying such money i would have liked to know what improvements he's made!Quote:was a map by wayne at chipwizards

but on topic of the question, remap is always the way to go IMHO. my 106 XS had a chip put in my superchips by the last owner, which went wrong with me! where they had put the chip in, it eventually losened the joints and wouldnt start. cost me 140 quid to repair -
#20oh right does,
so for what im wanting theres no point in it,
kk cheers lads -
#21what you wanting?
