Important! : help regarding re mapping please!

hi everyone. ive recently had newmans ph3 cams put into my vts. so obviousley its running rather lumpy. it seems to be throwing up a few problems though. like ocational misfires etc so im rather worried about damage to the engine. the car runs alot better when it has warmed up but it still needs mapping pretty urgently before the engine gets some serious damage. now i have done a search but i could not find the answer i was looking for- im abit skint after chrimbo etc... and the car needs mapping but i dont think it can wait much longer tbh. so i dont think i can afford a chip wizards remap so i was considering a £290 quid super chips remap at well lane turbos. ive had mixed feed back about them but they are £200 cheaper. but this also brings another question of- why are they £200 quid cheaper for the same job? do they do something different? any help would be massively helpful cheers everyone

i went to somewhere else before chipwizards gave me some bullshit about the dastek chip and then eventually ended up going to wayne. ring him for a price may have dropped since.

just set your timing correct and it'll run fine till you can get it mapped. i ran mine for over 6 months unmapped. if your from the NE i can sort your cam timing so it'll run fine,
  4. #4
Andy got his timed in right and ran fine without a map at all
  5. #5
it runs mate. ricky p set it up for me and he spent a long time tinkering with it. i just dont want to break the engine or owt daft like that by running the car for along time unmapped

i ran mine unmapped for about a month

was fine for just running about
  7. #7
mine seems to be fine when its warmed up. its just when its cold. so there is no danger of breaking it then?
  8. #8
mines mapped and runs rough when cold, dont worry about it. i done 2 track days and a few 1/4 mile days unmapped.

puts my mind at ease a bit. thanks everyone.

u phone up any place that does remapping and they'll try and tell you it can't be done. then you tell them it can. then they tell you 'not with our equipment'. they all seem dumb! the only way u can get a map that cheap is to have a standalone/piggyback remapped but then that costs shed-loads to buy one of those.

only wayne from chipwizards will willingly map a saxo/106 straight from the ECU. single plug is better too, if ur on a 3-plug ecu ur gona fall a few bhp shorter than a single plug.

would also like to add, its better to see wayne on a good day which is gona b pot luck. i went when he was busy as hell. i had to wait 6 hours after my booked time, even after my 4 and a half hour drive! i didnt get my car tested on the dyno before he mapped it to see before and after results. and to add to it, i fell about 10 horses short of my desired bhp. but that has since been solved, turned out to be a major manifold leak

i had to wait a few hours for him to finish mapping some mk2 golf turbo. i was supposed to be getting mine started at 8 but he didnt start on it till about 11.

So can you set the timing on the standard pulleys or does it require some Kent pulleys to be set up properly?
  13. #13
    standards are fine.
  14. #14
    Awesome, thanks.
  15. #15
the standard pulleys are vernier pulleys, which are quite renowned pulleys, they are adjustable enough for what your bound to need. some people upgrade them to allow further adjustment

also some after market ones are lighter than standard

helping things along a little such as a lighter flywheel and crank pulley

been to well lane turbos today. to enquire about mapping. they insisted i would get 10 ponies from a map on a standard car, they insisted that they have never heard of wayne (chip wizards rochdale, used to map cars for well lane) and then they told me that they cant map my car as it is cammed and they only do generic maps, then they said they could map my car but my cams (ph3s) have too big a duration to idle (264.7 i think) which is aload of baba. so ive gathered that they dont no what they doing properly and i dont want someone working on my car that could cause damage too it im afraid so its off to chip wizards with ricky ps spaxo when thats been cammed in the next couple of weeks hopefully

    waynes a good lad
need to take my 106 down there when i drop the motor in

as soon as the words generic map get said id have been disapointed tbh
means its a basic map thats set up for a few mods but it wont be specific to your car
also you can guarantee an amount oh power from a map its just no possible as all engines differ

wayne will get it running sweet
with mine he got a few bhp extra to the last run but backed the fueling off slightly in high revs to keep it smooth as it was having a little drop in the revs

less power but drove extremely well

    deffo worth the drive

i no mate and thanks for your input much appriciated but i like to get lots of different peoples opinions about things like this, your were one of the first i talked to about it. also i like to get the mass opinions of people on sax-p as there are alot of people on here who know what they are on about
  23. #23
no worries hope u get a good price from wayne , i will not be on hear much longer now i not got a saxo
  24. #24
i think ricky is sorting something out with wayne, i think he has a car or 2 that needs mapping as well as mine
