Gearbox Fitted. Now car making funny noises and battery light staying on?

  1. #1
Right, Ive done a search and couldnt find anything..

I have a 1.4Furio that needs a new gearbox, would i be correct in saying you cant put a gearbox from a 1.1/Vtr/Vts in it because it use's different Driveshafts?
  2. #2
any saxo or 106 gearbox will fit
  3. #3
I had a 1.1 Gearbox fitted to my Furio
  4. #4
all the gearboxes are the same and the shafts should fit.

Some people have said that they have changed boxes and the drive shafts were not long enough.

How ever i find that hard to believe when all gearboxes are the same, its the ratio's and final drives that are different.

I have had an early mk1 1.1 box on my vts and an ax 1.1 box on.

Both fitted fine with the original driveshafts.
    Now have a 106 s2 rallye gearbox.

    Driveshafts fit fine.

Just to make sure, will a Mk1 Vtr box will a 2001 1.4 Furio?

As matey i spoke to at the scrapy was like nah i dont think so, due to them all using different shafts.. I just dont want to buy it then look like a dick when it doesnt fit..
  6. #6
it will fit mate, as above theyre all the same just different ratios
  7. #7
it will but from the ratios i think it makes the furio quicker your better off with a 1.1 box as of the shorter gear ratios at the low end gears or just get another furio box...
  8. #8
I was told if i stick a 1.1 box in, it will be like 80mph top end?
Ill just go with the Vtr box, is there anywhere on sax-p that till you what ratio's you get out the box etc?
  9. #9
    Bump??
  10. #10
there is somewhere on here with all the ratios, ive just had a little search and couldnt find it.....use the search button mate, all the info is there.

1.1 will reduce your top end but increase acceleration as the its shorter ratio than a furio box.
  11. #11
Can guarantee its a lot higher than 80 with a 1.1 box on, you're looking at 3 numbers quite happily.
And a mk1 VTR box is shite, will take ages to accelerate, and have a huuuuuuuge top speed (theoretically), but why would you want massive top speed and shit acceleration?
  12. #12
Looks like ill be getting a 1.1 gearbox then! On my furio box it would only do 105, so would be good to see what it will do with a 1.1 one, obviously this speed happened on my private runway.
  13. #13
ive got 2002 vtr gearbox but in essex
  14. #14
i have a 1.1 box for sale mate

will be fine on your car and will accelerate a little better
    and will do over 100
  15. #15
How much alex price posted..? How many miles on it,
  16. #16
    its got 76k on it
not willing to post as its heavy will cost silly amounts but you can sort your own courier if you want
im looking for about 100 quid for it
  17. #17
More onto this gearbox subject anyway as im wondering about the 1.1 box etc say i fitted a furio box to my vtr would that give me quicker acceleration? But with this quicker acceleration do you have to change the gear sooner?

    Thanks
  18. #18
the ratios in the furio and vtr boxes are similar so i doubt youd notice

yes youd need to shift sooner as the revs pick up faster

Ok thanks for the help , i just need to find a 1.1box! I hope it all fits, i no everyone keeps saying it will, but i just hope it does :L
  21. #21
    Will a 1.1 box out of a 106fit??
  22. #22
    yes it will
  23. #23
Well i asked the same question on my local site and get this back of a member is this true?

Also have a look at your engine code, I bet it starts with TU3JP. Because if it does then it's the exact same engine I have, the exact same engine used in all the 1.4 Saxo's, 1.4 106's, 1.4 206, 1.4 306, 1.4 C3, etc etc.

I no im asking loads of questions etc, but some of you must have learnt this somewhere.. its a learning curve im only 17

dude theres a 1.1 box on eBay for buy it now at £65 all working the 1.1 boxes are easy to come across therefore alot cheaper

......there is a ratio guide on here and the vtr and furio ratios are differnt making the furio loose its accerleration which you dont want to do if you look at the ratios the 1.1 gearbox is.......heres the guide found it

    http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=125615

thats the gearbox ratio guides ...basically the furio as its a smaller engine will take more time to push out the power in each gear in the vtr thats why with a furio box it may be quicker acceleration....the 1.1 box is even lower making it go through the gears alot more qucikly the top speed on a 1.1 gearbox is apprarently 125mph im sure in the furio you will be able to achrive the 112mph it states on the books with this gearbox !

    Hope this helps mate...

Well new box is now in and so is new clutch.
Gearlinkages are ******. My boss managed to bodge them up with the medal for the time being untill i order some on monday. Fitted starter motor and made sure everything was connected correctly now when it starts the Ecu lights flashing and battery lights on?

Getting pissed off with it now tbh.
  26. #26
iv literally jus come from the garage where my gearbox is being done an i took my vtr box out stripped it an changed one of the shafts with all the gears on cos mine was screwed, put it all back together put the battery back in an now the ecu light wont turn off an i was like wtf? nothin has changed lol
  27. #27
Pissing me off big time, this car. I thought i would be able to at least drive it tonight even if it was for 10minutes i would fall back in love with it. But oh no
  28. #28
The starter motor seems to be getting stupidly hot! i had it tested before it went back in the car and the bloke that stripped it down and tested it said theres nothing wrong with!
  29. #29
Sounds like an electrical problem - starter wired up correctly? Could be earth fault with gearbox? Sounds like the starter is wired wrong IMO
  30. #30
had same problem basically the starter motor stays on....and runs even when the car is running taking and draining the battery flat i had to have the wiring re-checked also a fuse was gone and the crank sensor was playing up so got all that sorted...
