performance testing ...

Ok had a couple of mods done & here are the very rough results in stages.

    Totally standard car

    0 - 60 std timed at 8.1

30 to 70 through the gears timed at 7.95

roads damp & cheapo from tires

With raceland induction kit fitted red filter (seems to lose a bit of very top end power but adds good torque at 4000 rpm.)

    0 - 60 timed at 7.96

    30 to 70 timed at 7.76

    with raceland & a decat

    0 - 60 timed at 7.41

    30 to 70 timed at 7.0

with raceland & decat , rear seats removed, spare wheel removed, parcel shelf out, car stripped of all the dynamat shite (6kg) that someone had done the boot floor out in, jack removed, brace out, boot floor board removed (4kg). so probably 30 kg's out of the car & a fairly empty tank of super.

    0 - 60 timed at 7.00

    30 to 70 timed at 6.13

So it appears as the decat & weight reduction make the biggest difference.

So next task reduce weight further.

    how did u time it?
  3. #3
Ill ask it first before someone else does.

    Is this a vts?

How was this timed? Stopwatch or proper gear?

    30-70 in 2nd and 3rd or just 3rd?

    Interesting.

Tbh though i would have thought it would have made it more quicker than 1.1 seconds, but still that's quite an improvement if the timings been done correctly etc.

Timed using Race Technology timing gear, you can download all the result into a laptop.

The car is a 1998 110,000 mile car VTS

    30 to 70 done in 2nd & with a change into 3rd at 7000 rpm.

Quickshift gear linkage fitted for decat runs.

the 30 to 70 figure is pritty good gain, thats the most important part imo 0-60 is just pub talk
  8. #8
    good thread
  9. #9
...quickshift doesn't do nothing for performance. just less throwback
  10. #10
it will mean a faster shift so less time off the power though

    therefor better times

also stripping out the car makes more difference than any sensible mods u can make. at USC, i was talking to a guy in a standard 106 gti who had just stripped it out, and i was there in my 106 gti but cammed, mapped, decat, induction kit... the usual mods. but also had added weight from a custom boot build at the time, but running at 150 bhp. yet the standard gti made the 1/4 miles in 15 seconds, i done it is 16!

so stripping your car shuda done a lot more difference than that

quickshift doesn't make a faster gear change at all... just less distance to change it, as far as the gearbox is concerned its the same. u can still change just as quick
  13. #13
less distance to go at same pushing speed will engage the gear faster
decent linkages are the best thing ive done
    dont miss gears anymore

agree about the stripping comments above aswell
but some guys dont wanna strip there cars

how not, just say for example, you need to move your gear nob 100mm, and i need to move mine 50mm, i will have shifted before you.

lol well said! nice thread mate, i would also of expected more of a gain though

Maybe my test results do not have a large sprinkling of bullshit thats why they are dissapointing.

After owning many very exotic fast cars, I am truly impressed by the VTS.

The runs it produced semi stripped was even to me impressive. The wheelspin when the throttle was cracked open in second was super, I am a true fan of the saxo.

The saxo is like a go kart' I have a couple of nice cars at the moment, but the saxo is the most fun.

If youre wondering how much faster a lighter car really is, try this website

    http://www.letstorquebhp.com/calculator.asp

There calculations seems ok and 0-60 times for real world cars are pretty accurate.

cool results them... makes you think
  19. #19
I think that 1.1 seconds off standard is a good gain for approximately £130! lol, thats a seventh of the origonal time off!

    Good thread

Weight reduction is the best because its free lol

Just bumping this old thread :

I have rerun the original tests, but have added a few extras since the first tests

    Roll cage +25 kg
    only 1 seat (drivers)
light weight wheels & tyres 11.1 kg (per wheel & tyre)
    Catcam 708's & remap
    Saxsport
    Ashley competiotion 4-2-1
modified Raceland with wolfrace big filter , modified slam panel

    147 bhp

    Rev limit 7400 rpm
    0 - 60 timed at 6.71 (with wheelspin)
    30 to 70 timed at 5.70

will add throttle bodies for next test
