Compbrake quickshift fitting problems

I may be being really stupid but omg how on earth does this go together?!!!?

The instructions leave alot to be desired in my opinion.

I take off the gear stick knob and it still wont go over it because the black thing that holds the gear knob on is too large

Then there is a white ball thing which the lever uses to pivot on and it wont go over that either, does it have to be cut off or??

A guide or a link or anything to help will be appreciated.

    Or im useless.

Also.....when u set the leaver quite low to reduce the throw of it, how low can u go with out hitting something thats there as standard? Wouldnt the heatshield get in the way if thats what it is thats hitting it??

This is an unknown for me lol....can you tell.

remove both the white ball thing and the thing that the gear knob sits on.
The comp brake thing itself kind of acts like the ball. As thats the pivot point of the gear stick.

You can lower it a little more if you remove the heat shield. Just trial and error there mate and how low/short you like it.

just saw off the white ball thing and then everything pops off then place one of the rings on(best if heat shield is removed!) quickshift over the top bolt down
then second ring ontop happy days!!

Is the heat shield needed on the car? Because im thinking of taking mine of to get bit of a shorter throw.

The compbrake is quality though, love mine! I done the same as Mr_suv, pretty straight forward when you know what goes where.

if it's a 2 piece shield it's ok to remove. Wouldn't remove teh other half as iirc that protects the fuel tank from heat.

wrap your centre section if your worried

    however its not nessecry no

Anyone know if you can fit one of these compbrake kits easily if you have the shitty keypad in the cointray?
  11. #11
wouldnt think it would cause huge problems

b&m might be a better option as you dont need to take the centre console out top fit it

Once this is fitted, how easy would it be to revert it back to standard? - as kams guide mentions about cutting the OE nylon ball to allow the compbrake to fit on....

any photos available as a guide to how much should be cut away?

youd need a new standard stick mate

basically all the plastics gotta come off
  14. #14
    yeah thats what i thought....
  15. #15
tbh i cant see why you would wanna revert to standard
  16. #16
nah i know, its just one of those things that i always think about (fcuk knows why i wonder)
  17. #17
if thats what you worry about get a linkage attachment or a b&m
  18. #18
I was considering the B&M at one point, i'm juggling between the two.....
  19. #19
i prefer the b&m but the comprakes ok and looks better in a stripped car
just the feel is nicer imo

however a freezing cold gearknob sucks

true, the b&m and compbrake both have their perks. I'll make up my mind by the time i get round to getting one.

Dont bother cutting thew ball off, honestly cover your eyes and smack the ball with a hammer, itll split straight off.

Got a B&M on the Saxo and its brilliant, firm solid and no problems atall.

Got the compbrake on my AX and it doesnt feel as good, a bit snaggy at times and wont move freely, im beginning to wonder if without the heat sheild keeping it covered from dirt whether its getting covered in shit and muck is getting into its own ball like section/
  22. #22
the lack of movement is what i found when i tried the compbrake on another sax. It seemed stiff to get into gear. Thats what is swaying me to the b&m
