smoked mk1 headlights

right quick question

when standard mk1 headlights are smoked is this illegal and will they still pass mot

as i am told it is illegal and wont pass as smoking them affects the light beam and dip etc or something along those lines

its perfectly legal as long as you only paint the surround and not the reflective lense

yes i thought so, just wanted to double check before i do it lol, well when i get round to doing it is another story lol but im assuming this means it will not affect the mot then? as from what i was told the surrounding helps project the beam too aswell as the glass

the surround is just a surroud mate

it has no effect on the beam pattern

what you mean e-marked mate?

but i will be doing it my self i think, when i get another set of headlights as i cant take my car off for more than a day and these will more than likely take u good weekend if i take my time and do it properly

he means if you buy a set they need to have e marks
there a marking to say there made to suit the uk market
usually non emarked lights suit lefthand drive cars so arent legal in the uk

are they done the same way as mk2's well taken apart i know about the sparying part its just taken them apart i cant remember, there is a guide on fogs could i just use that?

theres a guide for headlights if you search
the guy paints the lenses too like a twat though lol

heat them up to separate
paint
and then re heat to put back together

ok i will do, i want to get some pics up anyway of the car in general since ive not posted any on here lol so you will have to look out for them in the photos section.

but its good to know they will pass then, im gunna look into doing it soon as lol probs next weekend but it depends wether my sus comes before then or not

there in a car where exery single part has been thrown inside the car
its full of vt it bumpers 2 dashs 2 wiring looms and a load of other bits like slam panel grill lights a door its madness

Its real easy to do, just be careful when seperating the lens from the plastic backing as it can be easy to disfigure the plastic or crack the glass if you try and force it open too soon.

Just poke in a thin screwdriver and start to prise it open gradually with a 2nd one.

When resealing the old glue can be used to some extent but its best to use some strong glue, hold it together with elastic bands and then when thats all dried together to ensure that a good seal is formed all round go round the edge with some clear silicone.

thanks for advice willsy, i had a good read of how to do it to the fog lights cause thats the same, if i do it myself which i probs will ill more than likely wait till it gets a bit warmer to do it i think, its not something major i want to do theres a few other things yet, i just weighing up options lol if you get me bt it will deff be done over next month or two i would have thought cause im impatient lol

ahhh i know where you live willsy, you live just past ambleside club dont you? if i was coming from my direction that is, cause i used to play cricket at ambleside and someone mentioned your car as we drove past it once, as if he knew you lol well he probs does, his name is ian raven, any idea?
