1.4 Engine in a 1.1

  1. #1
    Right.

My gear box clunks a little and is hard to change gear, i've greased the grear linkages but it still feels like i've not engaged the clutch to put it into gear and sometimes messhes and makes the awful grinding noise. Dad seems tho think its something to do within the gear box,

Now. I've found a nice little 1.4 engine thats done only 57K and was wondering about fitting that OR would it be better if i bought a 1.1 gear box or a 1.4 gear box? for the same price?

    Cheers

It won't be the engine - it'll either be the box or the clutch.

I did however find my car went into gear a lot better after I fitted a hard rubber lower engine mount and quikshift. Might want to change the fluid.

It is worth questioning how much to spend trying to improve when a 2nd hand box could have been bought - 2nd hand one might be just as bad.

The 1.4 engine comes complete with Engine and gear box, 1 owner from new and all wiring looms and linkage roads etc for the same price as a 2nd hand gear box, just unsure what to do. Either spend it on a gear box or spend it on a 1.4 complete engine and gear box.

    Buy the engine and box...

Thats low mileage and looked after - So long as your confident in this.

Even if you change the gearbox over and leave the Engine out until a later date, or re-sell.

Could just be thrust bearing gone tbh - If you do the box, i'd stick a clutch Kit on it too mate, whereas the 57k engine and box shouldn't need any of that..

I'd get it checked over by a garage or a mechanic first mate to find out what the actual problem is.

Gear Sync's dad said (His a Machenic)

As on a cold day when the oil is thicker its VERY stiff to stick into gear but once the gear oil is warm after 15 minutes or so its a bit easier to stick into gear.

    If i were going to get a 1.4 engine and box and replace my 1.1, would;

Will I be able to use my 1.1 radiator?

What about drive shafts? Mine are 3 stud fitting off a mk1 and this engine is mk2
Engine mouints in the same position?

What about exhaust etc? Would i need a bigger exhaust system or would the exhaust be in a different place?

Would the breaking system still be the same?

    Basically, what's different?

Engine comes with all air ducting etc etc.

    Thanks
