Which Plates?

  1. #1
Right, Ive wanted one for ages, and in the summer i bought a private plate, intending to put it on my new car... but its now January and Ive only just got round to getting paperwork and everything sorted.

The plate is: D4 NVT or D4N VT (my names dan and if you need telling about the last 2 letters then you shouldnt be on the site )

I KNOW its illegal ... but I do want to change the plates, nothing silly, just spacing and maybe euro style.

    So what to get...

I'd like pressed alloy plates, but have a choice of font:

Option 1: UK legal font with F badge.

Option 2: UK legal font, plain plates.

Option 3: FE style font with F badge.

Option 4: FE style font, plain plates.

Option 5: Standard 'legal' plates with spacing altered:

    What dyou reckon?

tbh mate, i'd have a legal plate, i picked option 2 btw

    Erm legal plate mate

f band isnt allowed there cracking down on it and illegal spacing i wouldnt do

Ive had sum legal ones made up, but just doesnt look right with the spacing, anyone who knows me would click in it meant DAN VT but just doesnt do it for me ...
  5. #5
Yer a legal plate or else you will get fed up of being stopped
  6. #6
Option 1 looks best, but again as mentioned I'd stick with legal spacing.

My plate is J99 CKJ, I would prefer to have it J99CK J, but getting stopped for something as silly as plate spacing just isn't worth the time IMO

ah, i see now, your registration is D4 NVT but all those plates show D4N VT - i'm guessing it is illegal to misrepresent it like that ?

settle for legal plates, have a look at the uk legal ones on dubmeister, they look ok - but it will have to appear as D4 NVT on your car i'd have thought
  8. #8
    it is illegal

actually says on dvla registrations if your going to change the way its set out they would prefer you not to buy a plate

not worth a fine and maybe points, been pulled before thank god i didnt get fined as he was a decent cop, just got told to get some legal ones and go to an mot station and get it signed and stamped off

i bought option 1 mate and i like the F on the side didnt know they where not allowed

so i can i keep it if i cover the F with a GB hummmm pointless like it affects the actual plate..

id say option one fella love it
  10. #10
whats the point in option one anyway ? its the UK font with a F band, i don't get why you'd want it like that
  11. #11
because i wanted the f badge but didnt want illegal font/spacing as i said before didnt relise the F badge was not allowed as i was fully aware the spacing/font was not.

    and imo still looks good....

ye, its illegal to have the F band now, a shame tbh, the French plates were sweet
  13. #13
true, they do look sweet mines ok but would have prefered the real style F plate..

had a proper D plate on my old golf mk2GTi and i was never troubled about it, but if there clamping down on it best to play it safe i suppose...
  14. #14
Yeah they got common and the cops clicked onto them and bam i am the law
  15. #15
Get the legal one's mate, it isnt worth the hassle.
  16. #16
whats the crack then, is it fineable ? even if 90% of the rest of the plates perfectly legal its almost laughable really...
  17. #17
yes still can get a fine mate think its 30 pound on the spot sometimes points too

might be laughable buts its the law mate

yeah very true mate, 30quid ant laughable mite just get 2 little GB stickers and put them over the F lol..

atleast i found out now before i got a fine.
  19. #19
were did you buy them from, just ring them up and cancel them ortell them to change the f to a GB
  20. #20
already on my car mate lol u can see the bright blue bit on my plate in my avi wounder
  21. #21
Ahhhh right and havent been out driving with them on yet i guess??
  22. #22
thanks for the input guys, I realise that I almost definitely will get pulled, but tbh for £30 i think ill risk it, but as soon as I get pulled Ill whack the legal ones on, if a copper gives you points for spacing thats well harsh! as ANPR can still read it no matter what the spacing.

As long as I dont come bitching on here when i get my FPN for mis-representing teh plates! haha
  23. #23
i just bought a private plate and id love to space them how i want but its illegal and im not doing it
  24. #24
ye, best play it safe - you not been pulled yet Caldzie?
  25. #25
Are pressed aluminium plates without the F band on legal, sure they are arent they?
  26. #26
you can get legal pressed plates, go to dubmeister
  27. #27
Thought so, all these numberplate laws are getting silly now, I had a small plate on my bike and didnt get pulled but that was last year, glad i aint got it now.

its gettting a bit OTT like, ye
  29. #29
Be carefull, if your willing to get it in the ass from the fuzz for the illegal plates. If they inform DVLA that you have been driving around with illegal plates then the plates can be taken off you, and your car will return to its original number.

My miss's has a personal plate and needs the numbers and letters spacing for it to read what she wants, pulled to many times so just has the legal ones now.

Yet i've been riding motorbikes for years with illegal sized plates, and never had any bother!
  30. #30
option 2 plain plates always look good in my opinion dont over complicate it
  31. #31
    I went for option 1!

my little mind is getting confused lmao
