Cold cold air idea????

    Hi guys and girls,

Iv been looking at induction kits now for a few days, and have seen soo many times that its IMPORTANT to get cold cold air into the engine as it produces far more BHP than hot air getting sucked in!

So what im thinking is, has anyone ever designed a induction system that allows you to put or consists of the air passing thru some sort of ice pack? like i know in everyday use it would be piontless as it would melt, but for track/drag sprints, would fitting some sort of ice pack that the air can pass via improve anything especialy on a warm day, and the unit would have to be sealed as we wouldnt want condensation getting taken in the engine, but do you see where im coming from??

If im being stupid just say so. lol

Easier idea would be to route your induction to open air just for the strip..
Perhaps take a headlight out and have a cone filter sitting in place of a headlight.

The air would be passing through so quick that I cant see it affecting it, maybe a points of degrees which wouldnt make much if any difference anyway, some higher performance cars have intercoolers abd chargecoolers, but you would have to have the intake running at minus temps for it to have any effect on the air passing through it id say!

I see where your coming from, maybe some kind of air conditioning system to cool the air before it reaches the engine, rather than a ice pack. Just a thought

As soon as I saw the title, I thought ICE PACKS lol

i have seen co2 systems that consist of piping wrapped around the induction hoses to cool the air

imo for the cost of designing and building a refrigeratd unit its not worth it for the minimal gain you would get

    Yeah,

I was just thinking, cos iv got a unit in my room, you fill with cold icecube water and it blows air through the unit of cold water and the air comes out freezing, and it does whizz thru pretty quick, i just wondered if anyone had tried it, or thought the idea.

    Just an idea tho

correct me if im wrong but the reason cold air is important is because of its greater density. (has more oxygen) isnt that what nitrous oxide does?

    imo its not worth it

plus you say it would be pointless daily your car runs hotter on track so would ruin anything like an iceapack in a few minutes

i agree, will not be cost affective and there will be numerous problems with it

Intercoolers! Which have already been invented.

You can't use one in a N/A set up though, as there would too much air restriction. But they work a treat for turbo charged engine!

That's absolutely right. Nitrous Oxide is non-flamable. In a performance engine set up, the Nitrous Oxide will be stored in a liquid form, under large pressue. When it's released it causes a huge drop in temperature, which gives more oxygen than normal outside air...

Dry ice? Has a temp of -178 doesnt it?

    HMMM DRY ICE
