is there an improvment on sound at all???
what about fuel economy?? out the window??
  5. #5
    decat will

    - make it sound alot louder and raspier even on a standard system it sounds louder.

    - might be slightly slower off the line due to the loss of low down torque and the power gains are usually more toward the upper end of rev band

    - will be a lot more free revving, power gains of 5-10 %

    - fuel economy may improve as there is less restriction on the system

supersprint centre section is compatable with a standard/most aftermarket back boxes and manifolds

Dont forget that with a decat you WILL NOT pass an MOT. Firstly as its illegal and secondly because emissions will be over the limit

Keep hold of your standard centre section with the cat for MOT time

A decat centre section is a bit of pipe! Any exhaust garage can make you up a piece of pipe of the same diameter to join your manifold to your rear section. It doesnt need to be anything special as it has no sensors, baffles, or anything!

it will pass an mot with the decat on if it passes the emissions ! which is possible if the car is treated right ....i quote the haynes !

But dont decat a standard system.. no point

WRONG, de-cating means removing the cat off the manifold.. a cat regulates input of fuel into the engine from the gases given out of the engine, and cleans it a little.
So... removing the cat normally results in overfueling slightly, so BAD fuel economy...

Its very doubtful that it will pass an MOT without a cat unless you happen to know someone 'friendly' thats doing the testing.

You're allowed 0.2% leeway on the emissions. My car (granted its not standard) was over 1.2% over which is quite far - the tested actually used the words catastrophically over the limit.

Theres a grey area over whether you NEED a cat convertor for mot, i asked my local garage if a cat is needed if the car would pass without it and they replied that a cat isnt compulsory but it is if it doesnt pass without one!

Numerous places that i asked said there would be a hope in hells chance of it passing without a cat, they were right since i was well over the limit

apart from the after cat lamda sansor is in there on later cars

plus it has to kink to avoid the arb and will nee to be smooth bend with no pinching

unless said garage has a mandrel bender in which case yes they could make one up

i say your best of keeping the cat in your vtr, although the noise changes alot without a cat

a decat car is illegal, thats why you have to put it back in for the mots i think its to do with the emissions, but makes the car sound better, and couple of my mates have it done n there car when revved high under load spit flames and thats on a 1.2 corsa and on a vtr
