is there much difference between the mk1 vtr and the mk2 vtr ?? i know theres like a supposed extra 8bhp but apart from that is there any other gains off owning a mk2 over a mk1....
benifits of a mk2 over a mk1

#2mk2 doesn't look as pants like the mk1 does
-
#3mark 2 is newer1 user thanked this post:

#4imo they look nicer than the mk1 and i liek the dials more, the mk1 doesnt have a "red light" for the petrol only disadvantage of the mk2 as far as i can see is that finding a aftermarket manifold for the mk2 is more dificult as the oil filter is in a pain in the arse place!
-
#5MK2 just looks nicer, and the extra 8 horses of course which is nice.
-
#6so really looks and performance are the only gains ? and looks is an opinion anyway lol
-
#7well yer really its the same shell and all that i think the running gear is the same bar the engine what else would be different?
-
#8yes but wouldnt you rather have an extra 8bhp standard? if you got a MK1 you could buy an induction kit and exhaust system and only be up to a 98bhp. all depends on what you want.
-
#10cant you fit mk2 headlights and bonnet on a mk1 ?? think i read that on here somewhere.... and i wouldn say no to the extra 8bhp lol, but is it worth payin extra money on insurance and more money buyin the car just to get it ...
-
#11search dude theres 100's of threads like this.Quote:is there much difference between the mk1 vtr and the mk2 vtr ?? i know theres like a supposed extra 8bhp but apart from that is there any other gains off owning a mk2 over a mk1....
people say the 8bhp difference doesnt show but i can honestly say it does.
also i found the 98bhp gets better mpg.
Down side of a later 98bhp mk2
manifold issue because of oil filter location.
Have to change manifold to de-cat. If buying new depending on exhaust its normally more expensive as the pipe is longer. -
#12really... oh i though it didint eanywa
8hp dude if you missed a service interval you would loose 8hp! -
#13i did have a search but could really find the answer i was after so i thought i would ask
-
#14no you wouldnt, every car loses about 1bhp regardless of what condiction its kept in every year since it was made on average. yeah so lets say the 98bhp VTR lost a few hrosepower and only had 95bhp, well the MK1 VTR would have lost more because its older, and has less anyway, a standard 98bhp VTR will always be faster than a standard MK1 VTR.
-
#15you can yesQuote:cant you fit mk2 headlights and bonnet on a mk1 ?? think i read that on here somewhere.... and i wouldn say no to the extra 8bhp lol, but is it worth payin extra money on insurance and more money buyin the car just to get it ...
but you need to cut the front of the inner wings away to do it1 user thanked this post: -
#16not unless you have a v reg mk2 with a mk1 engine !

any pics of your 120bhp VTR anyway mate? what you got done to it? -
#19so you like the smaller front citroen badge?
-
#21not really hard to convert the front just get an angle grinder on it
-
#23why did you make your name " VTR-120BHP" if you havnt got 120bhp? thats liek me making ym user 200bhp-westie123? why?
-
#24the MK1s have a smaller front badge ( citroen one ) tan MK2s, and i dont like them.
-
#25Do not overlook the emissions. Is the mk2 in a lower tax bandage?
-
#27nothing, but my name dossnt suggest that my car has more BHP than it actually does.
-
#28on the subject of names im alex vts
yet own a 106 gti
a names a name simple as -
#29where does my name say that "i own a saxo vtr that has 120bhp" ?? it doesnt its just a name not really no need to be throwin your toys out of the pram over it! cheers for the usefull input thou mateQuote:nothing, but my name dossnt suggest that my car has more BHP than it actually does.
-
#31alex did you own a VTS at the time when you joined the forum? and made your name. am tired to be arguing, i give in your right a names a name.
-
#32i did yes lol
-
#35anyway back on topic.... if i was to do the same "tuning" to a mk1 and a mk2 say cams, induction and a decat would they have the same power figure ?? i know figures arnt everythink but its just easier for me to understand that way. cheers
-
#36no the mark 2 will still make a better figure
-
#37mk2 98bhp will make a slightly higher fiqure.
-
#38would it be a noticeable differnce when driving the car ?
-
#39depends on how much feel fr the car you have
-
#40if you where used to driving a 90bhp model then got in a 98bhp model you would probably notice a difference.
-
#41tbh cant really feel the difference driving the two, well i didnt.Quote:if you where used to driving a 90bhp model then got in a 98bhp model you would probably notice a difference.
Only noticed it when i did some timed drags that the 98bhp was faster.
also did a standanding start with the two the 98bhp always pulled away a couple of car lenghs.
Even swapped drivers to prove it wasnt driver error.
But actually driving the car you dont really feel the difference between the two imo -
#42if you were to drive a mk2 after a mk1 i think you would notice a slight difference, but off the line i dont think there would be any difference between the 2! all depends on the driver
