Braided hoses, car or caliper?

  1. #1
When buying braided hoses for use with a VTR running Gti-6 calipers, do you buy hoses for a VTR or a 306 Gti-6?

    Any help much appreciated.

well as the stadnard vtr lines fit i guess vtr

cool, I thought it may depend on the caliper connection for some reason, but thinking about it, I suppose the length of hose required for the car matters too.

well the standard lines fit the gti 6 calipers so i would go with the lines for the car then you can gurantee fit car end

    Yep standerd hoses will fit

    but

they are too short due to the extra diameter of disk and size of the caliper

the hoses dont have enough slack in them to accomodate suspension travel and or steering

If this is picked up on an mot then it will result in a fail .

i can supply a pair of hoses made to the correct length for alot less than goodridge etc

    They may look fine

but be very careful, if the hoses do get pulled overtight too often

    thEy will fail

i can say the brake hoses from swampy are excellent

and ive got 180 calipers and the hoses fit perfect

All brake hoses have the same threads (except the older design, dont know the years, but were well over it now), when your looking at buying hoses, the differences are the length of the hose them selves, and the design of the braking system.
For example, the Saxo has a 4 hose system, some older cars, like some mark 2 Escorts only have 3 hoses.
The majority of cars have a 4 hose system now, it is mainly rear axled cars that only have 3. Some cars have 5.

So to answer your question, which I am guessing it has already been answered, is the Saxo setup lol.

not all modern cars have 4 lines
some only have two ports from the master cylinder, mainly abs cars.
these then run to the abs unit which divides up in to four pipes

the wo port one is much easier and neater to use if running braided brake lines all through the car rather than standered hoses
