track day wheels

    evenin all!

anybody know which are the lightest/strongest/best wheels that will fit my vts?

I'm after a spare set just for the track.

    Cheers

there are lots of lightweight wheels to choose from.

    compomotive
    team dynamics
    speedline
    etc

i'm thinking along the lines of second hand steelies

    i.e. 205 gti or 106 rallye wheels?

    cheers

personally if its just a second set for track id get c2 steelies
bout 40 quid each from citroen new iirc
  5. #5
will they be lighter than the standard vts alloys?

I'm trying to reduce unsprung weight to aid accelleration (every little counts!)

    Cheers

    205 gti wheels are alloys.

remeber on track its not just about light wheels but ones which give adequate cooling for brakes.

No point in less unsprung weight if the brakes overheat in 2 laps

Good point, however i'm on brembo drilled and vented discs with brembo pads so overheating shouldn't be a problem.

    I beg to differ.

With vts wheels, Mintex 1144s or 1155s im not sure which ones fag fitted on gti-6 calipers there was noticeable fade in my stints at brands. There are different compounds to brakes, just becasue they are brembo it doesnt mean they are stable at high temperatures espec if they are a road pad and disc

hence why im using comp Mos now

    venting ryan
ill be losing my fogs for some if i end up with some enclosed wheels

alex you think the fogs are still there on the car>

comp mos are a 5 spoke motorsport wheel

as seen on my 106 below

    compomotive mos.

they are my new wheels although i need to rape the R888s on my vts wheels fully before they move on. They have alot more open space betrween spokes for airflow, and generally have a bigger space between the face and the brake caliper aswell (hence why my 4pots are being fitted to this one)

It was very noticable they were getting hot and not working as well late on in the stints.

Ive seen it with others running closed steelies complaining of poor airflow to the brakes and excess heat build up.

205 gti alloys are not light nor are the compomotive MO's which are more for the rally market. Speedline do the 2017 which is a reasonable weight.
The C5 has some 15" alloys that are really light and look like steel wheels. I'd have thought though that you will need some good suspension and pad compound to cope with the heat, but it will be better at conducting heat than steel though airflow could be a problem. There are some good pads that can help though...

    mos are indeed heavy kam.

Although I love them, Speaking to the guy from motorsportspares or wtf his site is was saying how the TD wheels the metal compound used has been known to bend under massive impact, where as something like the comp MO is known to shatter the spoke itself.

mos can take some abuse tbh

mine took a pretty big hit at mallory in the gravel (enough to shatter both hub bearings that side of the car and there still straight

Ultimate track wheels have gotta be ultraleggera's. in 15's they weigh something like 4.9kg's! but there not cheap (£500)

Cheap thrills its gotta be second hand set of TD pro race 1.2's. Can be had new for £300 and there about 6kg's in 15's...

C5 are probably the slightest steel, but cooling is a issue as stated!

I've been told about the heat issue with my Rallye Steels!

ultraleggeras are my plan for my vts

good light wheel but very expensive
