Furio Braking

I was wondering if there is any way i could either upgrade my brakes/pads to improve my braking. With it not having ABS and only discs on the front, it tends to lock up in damp weather quite easily. And it scares me haha. I was just wondering if there is any way i could improve the braking to stop it locking up so much.. Someone said i could get discs on the rear, dont know how much this would cost though

    cheers

You would need a rear axle off a vt* model and then you will have discs but then if you do that the back can lock up and spin you out

Try bigger brakes on the front so you dont need to brake as hard to stop?

Decent set of tyres will also help

If it's locking up then it's probably not the brakes that are at fault. you're running out of grip, what tyres are you using?

Well atm im on steelies with tyres that were already on them, they all have excellent amount of tread though, their like new basically :| Could be shit tyres though...
Maybe bigger discs on the front would help? or maybe change to better tyres? ill have to check what tyres they are tomorrow in the light.

Would upgrading the brakes make your situation worse i.e. more likely to lock up

i dont have a clue really? getting some VTR alloys soon, dont know whether that will help

Okay, back to basics, which wheels are locking up and during what conditions?

Damp..roads are a bit wet so slippery anyway.. I think ill just get some decent tyres on the vtr alloys when i get them.. should be ok

braking is not just about how good your brakes are. Your driving style, suspension and tyres also come into it.

as for your brakes if you searched you would find that an easy and effective upgrade would be to the 266mm conversion. should be about £100 plus fitting.

if your wheels lock up when you brake then you need better tyres.

if your wheels dont lock up and it takes too long to stop then you need better brakes.

if your wheels are locking up, improving the braking power will only make the situation worse.

it could all be down to your driving style though. obviously when there is bad weather you need to alter your driving style.

i could easily lock my wheels up when its damp/wet but i dont as i adapt my driving style and brake earlier than when its dry.

if you want to improve your grip then you need better tyres.

In the year ive owned my VTR ive never once locked up and I've had to brake quite hard sometimes.

Right i see, So ill get some decent tyres on the VTR alloys ive bought then if all goes well ill leave it, if not ill upgrade the front and put some 266mm brakes on.

Think i'll hop on the driving style bandwagon.

Not dipping the clutch straight away or anything silly are you? seems a bit odd to be locking up so often for it to be an issue!

Its not so often it was just the other night, think it was my driving style lol..maybe i pressed a little tooo hard haha. I think my problem has been resolved, got some good info on here for myself if i ever do change/upgrade anything.
