What sort of gains can i expect??

    Hi all,

VTR is going in for a service this weekend as the sevice book says it hasnt been done for 14k miles

(only had it 4 weeks) lol

So anyway..... having a good old service.

Now the work being done is as follows......

    PLUGS
    OIL + FILTER
    FUEL FILTER
    Coolant fluids etc

    --- PLUS ---
    GREEN REPLACEMENT AIR FILTER
Plus one of spencers ported/polished bodies

Now iv heard that the 8v engines respond well to std box with uprated filter, and just wondering if along with a ported body from spencer it will give me a noticeable difference? what with a service too to bring back some life.

Car has done 86k miles so not mega miles and on a 00 plate.

    what do you rekon?

    not much tbh
  3. #3
    nothing really mate
  4. #4
nothing really noticible may be a little free'er up the revs
  5. #5
Yeah, well i was going to go for the inclosed induction and the ported throttle body, but reading a few threads over the last few weeks has made me opt for the 45 quid green replacement and put the 100 odd quid iv saved towards another part/parts....

And apparently according to one thread i read, people seem to think that on the vtr a replacement filter can give good gains.

i mean i dont expect to service the car and add a replacement filter and ported throttle body and get 50000bhp from it, just meaning more like free up revs? mpg? sound? torque? and iv read you will see approx 2-4bhp from the body alone, and the filter will work well id imagine with that?

tbh mate them polished tb's wont make and difference there was a thread on hear saying the may even loose you power
  7. #7
    depends on the car
some cars react badly to servicing

for example i rekon if i serviced my 10 it would ruin it
its pretty bad and i rekon beyond repair

also the body wont give bhp just a little bit of throttle responce from what ive seen
a filter on its own might give 1 or 2 hp on a good day
basically itll be a very neglegable gain

You will see an improvement in how the car drives after a good service. It's likely to be smoother and you're mpg go up. Espec after 14k! lol

the car will jsut feal nippier but it may seem asthough it is a bit faster, i know after my induction kit it felt faster even though the gains will have been minimal.

Air filter modifications and throttle body mods will make the give you less mpg......

more air + more petrol = less mpg

and as for feeling quicker most of it is in your head
  13. #13
but th ikes of K and N and green etc advertise them saying like MORE POWER, BETTER MPG!
  14. #14
nothing really mate, although ive just had my tb port and polished a couple of days ago and it seemed to be alot smoother tbh

    All bullsh*t. Brain washing you!

Common sence tells you, more fuel being burnt, less fuel in your tank which makes you not go as far.

I was thinking of simular thing, air filter (not a argos one lol) and deffo the throttle body

yer mate k and n also think they are the best.....if there is more air getting into the engine the ecu will compensate by pushing more petrol in to keep the air/fuel mix the same

    read this mate.

mate K and N have been going for years, they are the best, and most widely used. ok there a bit behind on the old enclosed indution kits but theyl catch up.

An engine that is getting the optimal amount of air flow is an efficient engine, and one that may show improvements in fuel mileage over an engine that is gasping for breath through a clogged air filter
so they are comparing a new filter to a old clogged up one mate, obviously a new k and n one will be better than a oe one full of shit
  20. #20
so in a way they can give better MPG.
  21. #21

ok can we stop arguing and get back on topic please.

  22. #22
i wasnt arguing i was just proving k&n are crap and will lie about gains to be had
  23. #23
k and n open filters lose power FACT! far too much heat absorbtion. i had a k and n 57i filter on mine and it ran like a bag of shit! it was on the car a week befor being slung and the stamdard intake put back on

I changed my std air box on my VTS and lost approx 7-8 bhp on the rollers supposedly...
It was a raceland closed induction kit which was aimed at the slam panel, great for keeping heat out of the air filter but not really overly well designed... nice noise though

From your service etc etc, id expect it to just feel smoother and poss pick up a bit better but as already suggested no more then 1/2 bhp gains!

YOU could be lucky like me and lose a few! lol
