hello people i was jus wonderin has any1 ever put a mi16 engine in a saxo or a 205 1.9 gti engine in a saxo. i fort it would b a good project.

Mi16 im pretty sures been done before mate but cant remember where I saw it. And the GTaye lumps not worth the work, its basically an older version of the VTS lump

they put an mi16 lump in a 106.....

    think its in yeovil somewhere

yh iv seen that m8 they hav put the mi16 engine in the 106 so it shouldnt b much different puttin it in a saxo would it?
  5. #5
    id say 100% the same
  6. #6
still gonna be spending a lot though, will have to custom fabricate it in just as the 106 owner would have, prob use diff gearbox and shafts etc etc. Would be awesome but wont be easy

the blue one which was a show car ran twin carbs aswell.

Read reports that it was a complete and utter ball ache to fit in properly.

Have seen them in 106s and a few AXs. The engine it self fists with out a huge problem if you have basic fabrication skills. Its the drive shafts most people struggle with. A lot of people go custom, cut and weld them there self or apparently some people modify the hubs to take others.

would be pretty fast though, 167bhp standars in such a light car, but then again i take it the engine is quite a fair bit heavier?
  10. #10
The mi16 is an alloy block so infact not a lot heavier than the vts - if at all. The gearbox is heavier though.

the stripped, twin carb 106 is in pymouth and its a quick bastard. owner is a good mate of mine, has got a 306 bhp 200sx and a BMW M5 and says the 106 is a great toy!

im going to be putting a mi16 lump in my saxo
    awsomeee!

Also the Mi16 engine is one of the best 16v engines ever in standard form..Awesome..
  13. #13
i put the MI in my old 205 thought about fitting it into my vtr a couple of years ago but it was going to be soo much work i decided to sell it in the 205 shell

My dads putting one in a 106 with a 205 box it's a bit of a squize to say the least
  15. #15
how much would you be looking at if you got a garage to fit it?
  16. #16
its not a cheap conversion... and its not an easy job to get it in there, need custom mounts and alot of fabricating done! moving the slam panel...

get the lump with fully forged internals and it will be worth every penny you spend on it though, you will love it :d

Ball-ache isn't the word...the engine sits at 30 degrees (IIRC) and the exhaust manifold pokes out the back.
It's lighter than a VTS lump (if you're talking about the 160bhp alloy 1.9 version....the 155bhp/167bhp S16 and GTi-6 lumps are heavier) and is undeniably the best twin cam engine France has ever made but it would be much better to fit a VTS lump and tune it to similar levels. You'll have reliability issues with custom-made driveshafts and mounts although the BE gearbox is stronger than the Saxo's MA one in that it isn't made of cheese.

Basically, it would be awesome to run, but a Saxo with a B16A Honda lump would also be great. Still not worth the extra hassle over the VTS lump IMO, and thats coming from someone who owns cars with both a VTS lump and an MI16 lump.

It's basically an older version in that it's a 4-cyl French made petrol engine, but thats where the similarities stop mate

Let's have a picture of that bad boy! Last Saxo I saw with a BX 16v engine was in Holland. It was an orange/white track car and had a big bulkhead where the dashboard used to be! But it was running a reliable 200bhp (N/A) and the Mi16 lump is actually lighter than the Saxo VTS one, its the BE gearbox that weighs more.

Theres a rumour that Citroen/Peugeot made a loss on every single BX16v/405 Mi16 they ever sold, because the engine cost more to build than they could justify charging people. The rocker cover is made of magnesium alloy

If you have sufficient money, you can tune them N/A up to 300bhp such is the potential of that awesome Mi16 cylinder head.

250-275bhp would probably be returned from an investment similar to that of the 190+bhp boys.

That's a tidy amount of power without a turbo, it wouldn't make stupid heat and have any lag, and with it being lighter than the VTS engine anyway, think how much lighter it would be than a TURBO VTS??

    Food for thought

PS - Yes, I could do PnP management for it!
