hi all, for the last few days the car has been revving up to 3000rpm on its own and occasionally cutting out, well today i was on my way to college and it cut out at the top of my road and wont start back up its just turning over any ideas to what this could be? could it be idle control valve? thanks

    more than likely.

i have this problem, when yur turning it over give it some throttle at the same times, and it will start up....

new ICV is £90 i found out yesterday lol

hi it wont start with revs i tried it i going to take icv out and clean it up . think it could be the plugs?
  4. #4
Chances are it is the ICV, can't see why the spark plugs would increase the revs.
  5. #5
the plugs would not increase revs, got to be either fuel or air that would cause the revs to rise so possibly icv!!!

You can get a ICV for about £40 new from various motor spares on ebay etc

New ones from citroen are about £90 to £110 depending on which Mk1 Saxo you have (i forget which is the more expensive)

going to get a icv from a scrappy will and petrol model fit? thanks
  12. #12
hi i put a new icv on and its exactly the same any other ideas?
  13. #13
check for any loose vacuum or air pipes also chek them for splits and cracks and generall damage as this can cause iratic revving and stalling,
  14. #14
no crushed pipes any other ides? when the car stalls it wont start back up but if you leave it 10 min it will.
  15. #15
fuelling? have you changed anything on the engine recently?
  16. #16
no nothing has been changed recently just the icv. could this be fuel filter? or anything silly like that?
