Weight reduction

  1. #1
I have a 2002 vts and wanting faster acceleration, what parts of the car can i take/grind off to make it lighter? don't want to go to the extreme of taking the seats out
  2. #2
i would say grinding parts off is more extreme than taking the seats out.
remove PAS and fit non PAS rack.
remove abs unit and redo brake lines
    carbon/fibregash bonnet and boot
    remove spare wheels and hanger
remove fresh air pump into head
    remove fog lights
  3. #3
    can also get lighter alloys
    polycarb windows
    non sunroof skin

    the list goes on

Taking the seats out isnt extreme. It only takes five minutes for the rear seats and they weigh diddly squat
  5. #5
but I need the seats in as i've always got people in my car
  6. #6
is there anyting i could grind off? like the wheel archs under the trims, in the boot, from the doors or under the car?
  7. #7
took me 45 mins to completely strip the rear of my saxo down to the metal and tape up all the wires so its looks neat and tidy. best mod for money if you ask me lol

also can gring the spare wheel holder off from the underside of the car

I don't think I can get to the wheel holder as i've got a dual exit exhaust covering it! but i'll have a look tommorrow
  11. #11
    Dual exhaust = extra weight
People in back = extra weight

You're going about this the wrong way really! Remove everything you can out of the inside of the car, carpets, interior trim, door cards, parcel shelf, all the plastics, etc. Then just put the rear bench back in!

wel theres a start change to single exhaust....
  13. #13
Very true I should change to a single exit exhaust but this one sounds and looks good, it also goes well with my bodykit back bumper. I think i'll have a go at stripping out my interior

big body kits= extra weight and less aerodynamics which will be a factor in acceleration etc
  15. #15
u might aswel quit while ur ahead m8 as u want a light car without takin anythin off

    lol at this thread tbh

Would a fibreglass bumper not weigh less than a standard plastic item?

yeah but with a body kit even though its fibreglass, thers a lot more of it than the stadard bumpers etc

Plus if its fitted by Stevie Wonder theyll be more filler than bumper (which weighs more than lead).

Hmmmmm, I wanted a bodykit too, but need to keep the weight down.

what i was getting at was normally people put body kits on cars and they are massive! surely they must weigh more than a vt kit?
  21. #21
Hmmm, maybe I could fit it without the support beam, although not sure how legal this will be! Plus the kit i'm looking at replaces the whole front wings with fibreglass ones, gotta be lighter
