For whoever is interested, I've done some playing about with the quality gear / speed calculator, and I've come up with some stats of how people's speeds, gears, effective final drives, will be affected by different tyres sizes and widths. I've used some likely track tyre sizes... Here goes:

sadder than meeeeee. just messing... interesting results actually dude

That must have taken you some time!! Interesting reading though, id be interested to see how the different tyre sizes affect acceleration and if you would actually notice the difference on either road or track, can anyone comment on this? For example 195/15 against 195/50 with a VTS box.

good stuff, that means ill be geared for 155mph i wonder how long it will take to get there.?.

Very interesting,i wouldnt mind an S1 or Xsi FD for my Box, not sure which would suit better? I'll be running on R888's or A048s all the time now!

imo josh cheaper to sell your box and rebuild from fresh.

think about it the vts box stripped costs and is fucked once out as no diff, then the other box stripping and fitting, better off getting a new diff and box fitting it then selling.

thats what ill do if i build a 1.4 one

Josh, with my r888 now fitted, my S1 box now acts almost identically to an 1.4 XSI box.

Just remember that changing tyre sizes WILL effect your speedo. 195/15? Did you mean 195/45? Going from 195/45 to 195/50 is not a huge change, but it will make a difference. See the info above for the difference it will make to each gear's maximum speed.

wont be use for much else i dont think

also interestng read as youve done it for the rev limit my gti will have
    xsi box on a 195 45 tyre
    dont seem too bad tbh

Cheers Toad, yeah I meant 195/45/15 against 195/50/15, I did have a good look at your tables above, as I said interesting reading, what I was reffering to was that id like to see the difference or read other peoples views about in gear acceleration difference's between the 2 tyre sizes.
  21. #21
Being a small amount, it would be difficult to tell the differences IMO. The easiest way would be to look at your speedo Vs your RPM.

I've gone from 195/45/15 to 205/50/15 which is a bigger jump, as the rolling circumference has increased by a larger percentage. I'm struggling to notice the difference in acceleration.
  22. #22
some great calculations there! must of taken you ages to do all them
  23. #23
I'm quire supprised by some of those differences. I'll certainly think twice before going through a camera at X speedo mph when i've got the R888's on.

As it happens, is anyone able to work out the speed differences on a stock VTR between 185/55/R14 and 185/60/R14?
  24. #24
    intresting toad.

those are not top speeds of cars though? just the potential top speed?

any ideads on how much power would be needed to get there?
  25. #25
ash, I made some stupid formula which is gives a good approximation for the top speed given for a set horsepower (or visaversa), I think it's linked to in one of the stickys within the engine sex-tion.
