Gear's

    Right.

Just installed downpipe on exhaust, while i was under there and the pipe was off i covered the linkages in greece and WD40, i absolutly covered them in gunk and gunk all inside the balls and caps etc.

Anyway, recently when i have a cold start up, i go forom gear 1 to 2, its really hard to put into gear and grinds when i put it into 2. So i have to stick it in neutral for a second then into gear 2.

But once the car is warm its no problem putting into gear at all. Only thing i can think of is the gear box oil is cold?

I went for a drive earlier after i gunked all the linkages, it seemed a hell of alot easyier to change gear from a cold start up and didn't really grind from gear 1 to 2 (Was a cold start up) Well it did slightly but no much.

The car has only done 72K and had new oil about 4 months ago.

    Thanks
    Dan

sorry about that mate miss understood ya you could try changin the gear linkages because they may be worn internally

Sometimes my reverse wont go in to reverse first time, and first gear can be silly aswell

Hmmmmm.... The gear linkages seem to be fine mate, i had a wobble with them! Even if they were worn, i can see how the gears could be grinding together, i can understand if its going to be still changing gear (like John said).

gears 1 and 2 are literally impossible to go into gear when the engine is on, but when engine is off they slip straight into gear? so im wondering wether this could be a problem with the clutch as it goes into gear when the clutch is not engaged ?

    clutch is fucked ??

when my clutch nearly met its death, i turned the engine off, it would slip into gear, turn it on, no way!
