Important! : 16v to 16v conversion !

   Right i have currently a 106 gti which is a 1998 R reg with 136000 miles on it. I also have a vts engine with 63000 miles on it including gear box, wiring loom, ecu, and every thing needed for the conversion ! i am basically wanting to ask a few questions to clear a few things up in my mind before i start.
   
   Right i have been told the easiest way to do it is leave the current managment in but the engine in the gti wont start therefore i can not unlock
   the ecu ?
   
   Also the wiring loom from the gti can i use this on the vts engine ???
   
   I also basically wanted to ask if any one near sheffield area that has done a conversion before wanted to help me as i have heard of a few people that it is a bigger job than expected and would like a hand.
   
   I will pay cash in hand for any one willing to come up and help me as i need this doing as soon as possible hopefully this weekend and i will also pay some towards petrol if u have to travel

   If its the same mk engine to the old one, then just literally change the engine. Once youve fitted it, fit ya new unlocked ECU, ignition barrel etc.

   yes it is the sasme mk 1 plug ecu. when i fit the ignition barrell will i still be able to use the gtis alarm and keys ? because i want to !

   If you could get an unlocked ecu or send your's off you could in theory just chuck the new engine straight in and attach to your current sensor's loom, no need to change anything.

   i do have a unlocked ecu from the vts engine !! and yes mate thats it was i was planning ondoing just needed it confirming with someone thats done it !!!

   just get your vts ecu unlocked an you should have no probs.

   you havent even really got to know what your doing just to change the same engine... just take it out and put it back in exactly the same ? no rocket science

    yea well thats what i thought just wanted someone to help me cos i dont wanna fuck it up ! or do some thing that could potentially cost me loads of money in the long run !!!

    havent read all this. but if you use just the new engine, none of the wiring etc it will run.
    
    i dont get why your being told to use your new ecu though?

    because i cant unlock the old ecu for the new engine because the engine in the car wont start so i cant unlock it !

    not that big of a job swapping same engines m8 but if youve never done it b4 id recomend u masking tape each sensor or plug or wire as you you remove thm and write on the tape where it reconects so that you know where to replace them on the new engine

    Hi mate the ecu from the VTS and GTI are not the same. VTS have manual code and GTI have imobilaizer in ten ecu. GTI runs 7500rpm, and VTS runs 7200rpm. They are not the same.

    why do you need to unlock it though? its not coded to the engine. its coded to teh immobiliser. just put the new ENGINE in and use your old ecu, wiring, sensors etc.

    rev limits are the same mate. and you can swap gti ecu to vts and vice versa with no problems.

    I think not, maybe in England but in Europe 100% they are not the same. I know becouse I have Vts and my friend have S16. The Peugeot runs 7500 and he have immobiliser, and my Vts have manual code. My Vts will not start with S16 ECU.

    exactly wot i was thinking....surely if u leave the ecu, immobiliser etc it just a case of unplugging the old one, and plugging the new one in..?

    because his ecu would need to be unlocked and your keypad disconnected.

    yeah, no need to remove any electrics or wiring. just swap the actual engine over.

    if you need your ecu unlocking there is a place in nottingham you can post it to called bluehawk electronics. Its about a hundred quid iirc.

    I used them when I did a 16v conversion on a mk1 106.
    
    gti/vts engine is the same bar the badge on top so just direct swap over if they are both 1 plug ecu engines. If not then you gota swap looms and ecu over aswell.

    you can unlock the old ecu without running the engine, simply turn on the ignition, wait for the imobliser light to go out on the dash and unplug the ecu.
    
    but i agree with above, you dont need to do this. simply use ur gti loom, and gti ecu, just keep all the vts sensors as there newer. should be onto a winner then!

    Thats what im doing now mate just needed to get it straight in my head !
    today i have basically removed the old engine and just need the new one dropping in tomora and everything re-plumbing in ! just need an engine crane !!
