VTR engines...

went to look at a rallye today...

And it had a silver top rocker cover.

now i know rallye have black one's, but thought it may have been changed (either it was knackered or prefered the look of the silver one as i do)

no is there any other way to tell, between the roller and non roller engines without taking the cover off?

Wont really help when they all get deleted.

Anyway... Vtr engine wise i can't think of any differences from the block itself. Maybe check the VIC number or whatever it's called? Make sure it all matches up.

The throttle bottle is different as well iirc. (not sure if it is the throttle body, the bit at the top which lets the air in)

Gut feeling it's prob. just the rocker then. To fit the rallye inlet is a ballache iirc.
  11. #11
i had on fitted to mine fitted fine....

    running was a different story.

tis all wierd though, because the engine has been out before, because the bottom end has been painted red, but it still have the old oil cap.....

    hmmmmmmmm

Good price etc? How does it drive? May be worth walking away if you have suspicions
  14. #14
    paid £1400 for it..

drive fine, feels alot faster than my R ever did.

idles nices, starts first time sounds mint....

Doesn't sound bad at all at that price buddy. Should be all ok. If there are massive doubts a £35 session on the rollers should tell you?

red s1 rallye in farnham surrey any chance with brush painted white boot?
  17. #17
yea, it will be going straight to the rollers dan.

    no its a S2 mate....

ah right well if its a complete enigne block and head frankie you can tell by the injectors and coilpack. Early silvertop single plug ones used the thin picco style injectors and the proper coilpack not seperate ht leads.

If its stil using the ht leads and pack with the thick bosch style injectors with the inlet and return fuel rail then it may just be a rocker cover change. if its using the inlet only fuel rail you will know its a silvertop they generally run a tad quieter to

it defo had the ht leads and bosch injectors, and i remember seeing that very clearly....

well to me it sounds like a rocker cover change or its running a blacktop vtr enigne either way wont be top bad obviously tad down on power but it wont be much

    noiceeeeee.

    cheers mate.
