#2I do believe you can yes
few different sensors about it but should be fine I think -
#3yeah? do you know if its much of a job?
-
#4also will my inlet and etc bolt straight on? jus tryin to think whether it will be worth it?
-
#5if its an early silver top head, then the inlet manifold will be straight swap
-
#6does anyone know what would be involved in the changeover, eg what i would need to add or remove or modify? it is an early grey top
-
#7not alot mate.
may need to change a few sensors tis about all -
#8sensors on the mk1 head? or change the plugs on my loom? will it run ok and idle corect etc with my original set up? if this is the case whats the diffrence between the early grey tops and the black top engines? and my rocker cover should fit the black top head yeah?
-
#9Black top heads have a different combustion chamber shape with a smaller volume.
The black top have a very different cam profile, Different rockers setup and harder valve springs.
I don't recall off hand the cam bearing sizes in the early grey top but there is a possibility you cant swap the cam from one to another.
Come to think of it there were different pulley sizes on some TU engines as well so its worth checking if your planning to swap them to.
Sorry its been years since I have even looked at a early grey top engine. -
#10well the head im looking at already has cam and valve springs etc? just needs a pulley and rocker cover i beleive, and any sensors do you know what engines/heads wont fit together? or anyone know for that matter?
mine is a 2000 mk2 -
#11tryin to find out what numbers or markings the head iim loking at has but i think it has 2j2 stamped on it if that will help anyone identify?
-
#12so if i used the head and cam and rocker set up etc from the blacktop with my grey top pulley and cambelt etc would this be useable? also will my rocker cover fit the blacktop head?Quote:Black top heads have a different combustion chamber shape with a smaller volume.
