Gti Loom Question

  1. #1
Right, i'm now the proud owner of a 16v engine, it's from a 106 GTI. Ive noticed that even though they are both single plug ecu's, my saxo plug slightly bigger. Is this right? So am i right in thinking the new loom just replaces the existing loom? Will it still fit ok?
  2. #2
i had same problem this weekend m8 looms r different have to buy a loom that connects straight up. or cut ur old one etc... apartly pugsport can do it if u have both looms gti and saxo loom etc
  3. #3
I had a 106 gti loom, there are a few differences I noticed.

The ECU plug is the same.

The mani difference is the 106 gti loom has 2 connectors to join the engine loom to the car loom, and whereas the Saxo Mk1 VTS loom only has one. There were a few sensors that were different but can't remember off the top of my head which.

yer but i was told as long as they are both 16v they will fit the car? Im confused..... the gti is single plug as is the vtr one currently in my car. But everyone says the single plugs work....... argh lol
  5. #5
i dont have a mark 1 vtr is a mark 2 single plug
  6. #6
the 106 gti loom won't fit any Saxo without cutting wires. I bought a 106 gti engine, loom etc. and then i looked at it and it was no way going to fit, looked too much of a mission to cut wires etc. So i bought a mk1 single plug vts loom - connected straight up.

I'm not 100% about the Mk2 single plug - whether it fits a mk1 vts loom. Maybe it has a larger connector block from engine loom to car loom?

yer but if your engine loom and ecu were from a 106 how did a vts loom fit your 106 ecu? they are different sizes...... you would have to buy a new ecu aswell???

They were exactly the same size iirc. I sent the 106 gti ECU off to get unlocked and then it come back and worked fine, - was a 1AP.41 remembering it off the top of my head

So I have a 106 gti ECU (sent to bluehawk to be unlocked) connected to a mk1 single plug vts loom, with a mk1 vts engine, in a mk1 Saxo Westcoast (1.4).
  12. #12
    i just dont get it.....
  13. #13
okay the plug sizes should be the same on both the vts and gti loom..infact i know they are..you are trying the plug the loom into the 16v ecu and not the vtr ecu right? and i pretty sure u will need to splice ur vtr loom into the gti loom as they are from a different year..

    Im gonna start again........
My Car 2000 Phase 2 VTR Single Plug
Donor Car 2000 106 GTI Single Plug

As far as im aware, all i needed was a single plug donor engine. Which i have. My mate has a 106 Quicksilver and the ecu fits his car just fine, but isnt even close to fitting my VTR. His Quicksilver is newer than my vtr and the engine. Which makes me think that Saxo's, even though they are single plug, have different size ecu plugs to Pug's. This is doing my head in, im starting to wish i didnt buy the fucking thing now........

    i just dont get it.....

The 16v ecu are the same..the only difference being single plug or 3 plug..therefore, your
gti loom will fit into a vts ecu and
a vts loom will fit into the gti ecu..

The loom is from a gti, and some of the sensors are different etc, so u will have to cut and solder the loom..

whereas if u bought a 2000 vts loom like meee...it should just plug straight in...well thats what im hoping for anway!..
  17. #17
what is the advantage of getting the ecu unlocked?
does that have to be done?
  18. #18
i think you are all missing the point, my vtr ecu plug is bigger than the one i have from the gti. but on the other end of the loom are the various multi plugs, will these just plug in to the ones already in my car. they are both single plug there isnt much in the age......
  19. #19
you trying to run the vtr ecu on a 16v motor??

the 16v loom should plug into your car
youll need the gti ecu aswell
  20. #20
no im not. im not trying to run anything yet. im trying to find out why my single plug vtr has a different size ecu plug than the gti loom that i have.
  21. #21
Because its a vtr ecu that wont fit the vts/gti loom. the whole reason people say tou want a single plug vts/gti loom is that it will plug right in to the car loom at front passenger wing. there is no point in trying to plug it in to your vtr ecu.

    Do you have gti ecu
    do you have gti loom
  22. #22
yea if its a gti loom
itll be a gti engine yea
    so use the gti ecu

therefor you shouldnt be worried your vtr ecu doesnt plug in
  23. #23
okay when u bought ur engine..did u get..

    gti engine
    gti loom
gti UNLOCKED ecu? the ecu will need to be unlocked..

You cannot just put the 16v engine in and run in with the vtr wiring set up..

you must use the gti ecu..to plug in the gti loom...and on the other end..u plug the gti loom into all the sensors, BUT as u have bought a gti loom...im pretty sure that u will need to cut, and splice a few bits into ur old vtr loom..
  24. #24
lol right this is confusing i am from the 106 rallye register. I am currently doing the opposite to you and putting a vts engine into my 106. to make things easier for both of us and so that no wires need cutting do you want to swap looms? my engine is a single plug too.

Pm me if you want to do this and it should sort out both our problems.
