    try 306 gti-6 brakes, i was looking inot getting them a while back, they are quite cheap on ebay, scrap yars etc, get some mintex pads and thats a whole lot better than the standard brakes.

    honestly cant say mate, i wouldnt imagine some gti-6 brakes and mintex pads being any more than £70 from a scrap yard. dont hold me to that though.

    haha nice reading of the origonal post there

    266 setups are very good unless you fit crap pads ect
    available off quite a few cars (and i think a few vans)
    as listed above the 306 xsi
    206 gti (not the 180 that has 283s)
    and i think the berlinog van/pug partner (i know some run 283s though)

    get some that have already been fitted or some off williamsvts, he will pre grind them so they fit straight on. I got berlingo van ones and had to grind probs 8mm off the corner in a concave shape.

    only got a 1.1 but the brakes are shocking... any ideas on what i can get to stop it on a T ?
    sounds stupid i know, but its needed. i heard Berlingo vans have pretty tight systems but will they fit? . . .

    any help guys much appreciated.

    as long as you have the right size wheels you can fit 283s off a gti 6 on a 1.1

    best bet is to say what size wheels you need to fit the brakes behind

    rule of thumb
    13s=247mm
    14s=266mm
    15s=283mm

    available off various cars
    anything over 247s on a 1.1 and you may need a bigger master cylender as they have a tiny one

    get some high carbon brake disks and uprated pads and you will be amased at the difference over standard. I'm testing a set of RC5 Carbone Lorraine pads on my BMW and the stopping power due to the higher friction material is very noticable. Also the pad material does not compress so the pedal feel is vastly improved.

    high carbon brake discs?

    i bet those arent cheap. do you think those would compare to a larger disc upgrade? or would the sheer extra size of bigger rotors still win?

    do the 306 (xsi or gti-6) calipers need any modifications to fit?
  22. #22
    No they will fit straight on

    the gti6 ones you will need the yokes for

    either of them you should fit new longer hoses with

    well im on VTR alloys atm, so best bet then would be 266 ?
    so would changing the master, braided lines and a set of 266 be worth the time and money ?
    or spend a bit more on getting some 15s... but im thinkin that will get too big for the lanes.!

    its not a problem, but i dont want to be spending out sh*t loads for something im not going to use to potential. i do alot of back road and lane driving, just gets on my nerves as im braking too early in the corners to make sure i can take it!

    thanks

    what cars have the 266mm set up??
  25. #25
    tahts the fronts sorted for now * jsut blagged a set up from a stacked VTR * what can i do about the rear, i knowt he braking is split like 70/30 to front anyway and my handbrake is about 6 clicks now, just adjust the cable and leave the back as it is?

    most are about the same price as other 'performance disks' OMP's are around £120 for a set. Big rotors will only help heat dissipation on road cars.

    depnds on usage on any brake setup, iv just fit sum 312mm discs to the rear, yes, rear, of my mates polo and he says there poo till warmed up, there vented ECS tuning discs as well that came off a turbo'd golf R32 so there not cheapies
