Is it a 1.1 by any chance?

From my experience they are all tappety and adjustment doesn't seem to last very long.

Is the oil very old? Changing every 3-4k will help. Try not to use an oil that's too runny as well. If it is a 1.1 and it's over about 50k try 15W/40

also another thing is 2 make sure the spark plugs are tightened enough....my engine suddenly started making areally loud tappety noise and sounded like it was coming from 1 part of the engine but now ive tightened up my spark plugs a tad more its fine

your spark plugs wern't tight enough? wtf?

i'd be more worried about compression loss than a tappetty sound and i doubt tightening your spark plugs fixed it

yea i would agree with that if your spark was lose it would not make a tapetty moise u would have a misfire

noisy tappets are common on saxos

took mine to garage and cost 30 quid to have done
or you can do it yourself ofcourse

sorting the tappets is an easy job if u know what ur doing, after seeing mine being done id never pay money to get it done!

Get a Haynes book a gauge and do it your self with the minimum of tools needed, piece of cake and a little patience at first and you are good to go, if it comes back at a later date just do it again .

Actually fella's, having loser plugs made my car sound really bad/tappy and i noticed a loss in performance..

The 8v TU's are rattly/tappy anyway, its just the way they are..

Also 3-4k oil changes on a std engine is abit steep..Use a good fully synthetic oil ranging from 0w-40, 5w-40 or 10w-40 and 10k oil changes will do no harm at all..

Also do NOT use a 15w oil, yes your engine will sound nice and quiet but this will cost you in the future when the engine expires earlier than it should as the oil hasn't lubricated the engine properly..

A 15w oil is way too thick and wont circulate very well at all from cold start up which is where like 80% of engine wear occurs..

5w-40 or 10w-40 is what Citroen specify so use what they say..
