to strip or not to strip.

Realy tempted to strip my car and start getting it on some tracks, i kinda use my back seats but i gues if i strip it ill adapt to not having any.

so what would you guy's do if you had my car strip it or just keep it as a subtle modded road car?

also guy's whats the good things and bad things of striping the car out? will it affect m.o.t etc?
  2. #2
Well its obvious really, You strip it for a reason, to save weight and make it more responsive on the track. If it isnt going on the track dont do it. If it is then strip it!

Dont really see your car as the track style mate really it might look a bit random, depends if you can live with it too as it makes a massive difference to road noise and how cold it is inside the car. But the handling braking and acceleration are much much better. Maybe try it for a week and see how you like it.

If your gonna do trackdays you can always strip it the day/weekend before

my cars never been on the track and i have fast road bucket seats which dont lift up and no rear seats just carpet all the way threw. works for me

another way is take the cushion out and just fold down the rear and if you want to take passagngers lift up the back and put the cushion back in but that is a right faff

Hmm i wouldnt bother mate.. think of all the effort putting it all back in if you dont like it / want to sell like you have been thinking off
  6. #6
It wont effect your MOT either providing u do a few things properly.

It can liven up blasting round all the back roads though.

I think your car looks too nice to strip it, buy an old knackered saxo like I did!

I had mine stripped for about a month as a daily driver, then all the seats went back in, now there out again lol. The road noise did it for me, but i hardly do any motorway driving now and its going on some tracks this year so i think i can justify it. I just keep seeing and speaking to a bloke that lives round the corner and has a pug 306 he uses day to day but its stripped and he's had a few mag features with it. carbon buckets / half cage/ fuel cell in the rear / huge 6 pot brakes. its a beast and thats my inspiration now

All comes down to personal preference. I never ever use the rear seats so i saw them as dead weight. Seriously try it for a week or two, if you can compromise the road noise for the handling/braking upgrade then leave it like it. But dont go too mental like me if your just trying it, i had ALL panels out and headlining. now its just the rear seats and road noise aint too bad.

Just taking th rear seats out make fuck all difference. If you want to be able to tell the ifference then take all the panals, bootlining, spare wheel and cage, steats, take the carpet and insualtion out, that made the biggest difference in mine. The seats maybe big but they aint heavy enough to make any noticeabl difference.

Agree and dissagree with that, there is a noticable increase in acceleration with the back seats only, but when you take out everything the responsiveness and braking are extremely different imo. But I cant see back seats on their own being massively great for handling as your just making the already heavy front even heavier in relation to the back

    yeh,

You either do it properly or not at all. You take the back seats out then call it stripped. If somone that does track days in the sumemr or has a proepr track car sees youve taken the back seats out and calling it a track car thyd just laugh. Unless you got the power i guess. Just seems like a bit of a bandwagon, if i take my back seats out, i have a stripped track car lol

Stripped mine was fun for a while, but now it ices up on the inside it rattles and knowone will give it a second look as you come to resale (i found out the hard way) you may think yeah ill put it all back in but head lining and carpet etc just a pain in the ass i wouldnt unless your only using it as a second car like a weekend n track toy.

Mine was stripped, then decided to sell it, took me 2 afternoons to get everything back in, and the carpet was the most awkward, just a large, heavy lump that was hard to move, took me about 30mins

def agree with that, a certain member on here who I wont mention by name lol had buckets, took his back seats out for the stripped thang but left in everything else including the rear seatbelts for months. Pointless lol.

Only downside Ive found is the doors look gay and you cant get carbon doorcards for reasonable dollah. And that it doesnt look quite rigt without a cage

yeh, can get a bit expensive with the carbon here n there. I miss my doorcards tbh, i wish i kept them, but im all for the snug comfort now haha. So just focusing on the chassis atm! Fast Road lol

Good times, its all about the backroads baby.

Ha, i'm dreading re-sale! I'm keeping the original interior and just going to sell it with car, then the next owner can do what they like with it.
  19. #19
ive still got all mine but it just looks like a right piece of carp when theres nothing in it look at it threw there eyes its going to look like scrap

glad ive got a new car now

no more road noise making my ears bleed in a 3 series
  20. #20
if your thinking about tracking it you can do it with the interior

    look at jpsaxos westy
that gets track abuse most of the time its driven and has full interior

people who strip it for the look are idiots
  21. #21
thanx for all the responce guy's i do realy wanna start getting it on a trck so if i did i do it properly and completly strip it and have proper cage fitted.

but after all your comments think im gunna leave it for now and in future when i decide on a new car maybe keep my sax and track slag it as it would be pointless selling the thing id prob be lucky to get 1500 squid, id rather keep it and track it
  22. #22
How many times are you going to go on track? Maybe 4 or 5 times a year. Also, it really won't make a difference. Spend money on a decent brake and suspension set up and you'll be quicker than "track slags" anyway.

This whole track slag scene is so fucking gay.

Exactly, unless your car is gonna be decalred off the road and tracked then keep your interior.

Ive put all my interior back in, but its still going on the track and its only a westcoast for the time being, so it will slow it down a fari bit.

Its still fun on the track even if you aint the fastest there.

Track slag is now more of a bandwagon imo, next year everyone will be pretending to have drag cars, HUGE front wheels and tiny rear ones and a wock off spoiler...

Good decision to keep all the stuff in. and as said before jpsaxo has a lurvely example of a car. 106 leather/carbon doorcards. good suspension and brakes and can be a god compromise for a daily and occasional track days.
