A budget way into lightweight wheels

  1. #1
I've been looking through website after website to find some good, lightweight alloy wheels, when I stumbled across these.

For the price to weight ratio theyre a bit of a bargain! And lighter than ProRace 1.2's

Just not my cup of tea.

I think they are quite cheap really, full set with tyres. No bad. I'd get some if they did 15" that were black and with a red lip

to be honest i think they are very good. i only saw them for the first time the other day when another lad posted them up.

    6.4kg is very light

they are similar in style to the old OZ superleggera's that have been discontinued.

i dont think you will find any better for less money

thing is cheap lihgt wheels are usually made from a softer material
so if you curb them the damage will be worse than on an expensive wheel
and if you hit a pothole ect there easier to buckle

also you need spacer for them...

    bit extra wieght

you get 50 profile tyres, so would need to sell tyres and buy 45s.

You can pay extra for 45's or take 70 off the price and have them without tyres

they look really nice, bargain price too

lovely wheels but only come in ford fitment which is a bastard if you dont want to use spacers

I've been looking all over for Nylon spacers but to no avail! Does anyone know if such a thing exists?
  17. #17
why would you want nylon spacers?

surely they wouldnt be strong enough
  18. #18
They wiegh naff all, nylon is used in some of industries biggest machines for washers and spacing etc, its very strong and doesnt suffer the heating effects of metal. Just unsure if anyone has used the stuff to make wheel spacers, which it doesnt look like they do!

nylon is effected by heat quite badly mate
the heat of the brake doss would cause the spacer to go soft and compress which would in essence loosen the wheel

i very much doubt anyone has made nylon spacers. nylon will be used in industry for properties that arent needed for spacers.

i could make some nylon spacers. only problem is a dont have any nylon that is big enough diameter. can make some ally hubcentrics though.

yeeeee they will be a lower grade of ally-metal and more porous as a result, more likely to deflate the tyre over a period of time and as alex said, more likely to buckle/deform.

    PTFE maybe wills?

Just to add, spacer isn't too bad because the weight is concentrated very close to the centre of rotation so doesn't have such an impact on the inertia compared to having the same weight towards the tyre.

It shouldnt soften at all if its been made properly!!

    Alloys ones it is
