Lowering!

  1. #1
Hey guys, still pretty new to this, so any advice would be appreciated!

I drive a mk1 saxo, 1124cc, east coast special edition, and want to get it as close to the ground as possible. Atm i can only find kits for 30-40mm , but that just isn't enough!

I've heared of saxos being slammed by 110mm, which would be absolutely legendary...

Within reason, i'll spend what i need to to get my car scraping.

If any of you guys know of any kits capable of the big one-ten or similar, please let me know, post a link to this thread or something?

Cheers guys, i'll buy a pint for whoever gets me a link to my kit!

    haha

will need coilovers. mines down 80mm but only 60mm springs on the front and i think any lower would be undriveable

110mm sounds stupidly low, the front bumper would be on the floor no dout and would have to run on smaller wheel's, i think your aim is to high. if you have the money to spend on the coilovers then go for it but with a VT kit on and the car lowerd 70-80mm on coilovers i think it would still give you the ultra low look.

Thanks guys, appreciate your advice. Like I say, I don't know what I'm doing, any advice / links to kits would be great. Cheers.

ive got a flat arch too, i wanted mine as low as i could get it but didnt want to buy coilovers as i plan on getting anothercar soonish. so i lowerd mine 50m on the front with springs cost me £50.(havnt got round to lowering the rear yet) click on the link in my sig for my progres thread there is a picture of how low it looks and some info on the springs i used. the rear can be lowerd without buying anything apart from tools as its a torsion bar, heres a link for lowering the rear.

    http://www.suzukituning.com/PSA/Suspension/Lowering.htm

i think you can lower the rear pretty much how ever low you want it with standard saxo rims. (not 100% but im guessin around 80-90mm). ive seen a few on here that are ultra low at the back. but the lowest ive seen on the front is 60mm on the vtr/s's. have a look around in the photos/videos section and pull up a progress thread of a vts/vtr theres plenty of them lowerd on there so you can see how it would look lowerd with a vt kit

Be aware the lower you want your car, the more parts you will go through more often such as drive shafts, dampers, bottoms arms, bearings etc... i had a 1.4 with no vtr/s kit on it with 15inch alloys on with 45 tires and they use to catch on the rear arches, so i had to fold the lip upwards to stop this. It wasnt even lowered either. i have my VTr lowerded 40mm all around with standard VTr alloys on with 55tires, its spot on, handles mint! The most i would go is 60mm all around. Roads today with all the speed humps and pot holes just kill your car! Yeah they look sweeeeeeeeet slammed but be aware . If none of this matters then GO FOR IT, slam it lol. Just my appinion GOOD LUCK!

Cheers guys. Appreciate your help. Apparently 60mm seems like the way to go. Even though it may scrape a bit!

mine 60 at the front handles nice but aint worth the damage its doing id go for like 40 mate will still be nice to look at and drive

going down 100+mm is possible but you will have problems with a lot of things rubbing catching and the track rods will be at a silly angle

you will also struggle with speedbumps (as in it wont physically get over one)

i would say go around 60mm as it looks good and will e good to drive around on

I went down 50mm on my old 1.0 and that was low!! I had a lower strut brace on as well to protect my manifold and it scraped on pretty much everything going. I'd say 50mm is ideal dude, its low enough to look good without having major problems. You will also need to bend the lip on the rear as the tyres will catch on the inner bump strip .

Spax do 50mm springs or kits for 1.0/1.1's, have a look on Europerformance. Thats where I got mine from!

mines lowered 80mm on the front, and 100mm on the back, i can have 5 fat people in it and theres no rubbin, the arches hav been rolled, and with vtr alloys they sit nicely in the arches

Mines dropt 60f/80R. Looks great and handles nice but ive heard the best ride comfort and handling compromise is around 35-45mm. I no that some saxo's have been lowered more than 100mm on the torsion bar so it's defo possible.

mines 60 and handles fine and doesnt bottom out

    that i believe!
my mate in a 106 got pulled for being too low, at first they thought he had too many people in the car and was going to give him fuck, then realised it was only me and him.
thats just hassle ! although i dont think there is actually a law on how low you can go, the police are just picky because they cant measure ur tyre depth and it fuckes up their cameras on the front of traffic cars and gatso's.

also dropping 110mm you are screwed over when it comes to mots, bcause it wont go on the ramp!

ive just taken my front springs out and rear shocks off, sits low but thats only because im replacing my shocks and bar anyway...

i got gmax 50mm lowering springs for sale, brand new, went to fit them *hence why i took springs out* then decided no springs and coilovers would be my best option... if anyone is interested 40 bucks + P&P ono.

13inch wheels and low profile tyres will get you down low without touching the suspension lol
