which discs and pads? 266mm setup

  1. #1
i've just got some pug 307 266mm calipers but i dont know what discs and pads to go for?

the car is being built as a track car but will be on the road now and again. not very often though. i've got my golf as a daily.

i've seen the mintex discs and pads set on ebay for £60

    are these any good?

is it worth getting the mintex discs?

they are twice the price of standard discs but they are still just plain discs, not drilled or grooved etc

are the mintex pads any good? or is there better for the money?

also are there any good websites to buy discs and pads from as i can only find ones on ebay? uprated or standard

i dont want to be spending loads as the car is being built on a budget. £60 or under would be good.

just get normal discs and some good pads

lots of guys like the mintex 1144s and 1155s
the 1155s are suited to track abuse iirc

    any websites?

i've googled but it only comes back with ebay and people talking about them on forums etc, no shops selling them

i dunno unfortunatley as for the brakes ive got i cant run mintex pads
  5. #5
i'd get mintex discs and pads tbh. i am trying to source the 266mm calipers / carriers my self where did you get them and how much you pay if you don't mind me asking ?

I've got Black Diamond Predator Fast Road pads in my 266's, they're pretty good TBH!

    europerformance.co.uk IIRC

argh. this is so bloody confusing.

i've looked on so many different sites and they all seem to say different things.

according to AlexR's guide i have the bosch type 2 calipers for which you can use mintex MDB2183 pads. but i cant find anywhere that sells the 1144 or 1155 pads for those calipers?

the ebay listing lists all the cars they fit but some sites say some of the cars on the list need different pads and the price varies quite a lot.
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=250361300721

i'm also looking at the Ferodo pads as i've heard good things about these.

how can i make sure i get the right pads? i dont know exactly what model the calipers came from but i didnt think that would be a problem as lots of different cars use the same ones??

there for example. it says the 307 1.4 takes different pads to the 1.6/2.0 but the ebay listing says they take the same?

the ones for the 1.4 are £50 and the 1.6/2.0 pads are £95! thats a big difference!

ok, i've worked out i could use the Ferodo FDS1399 pads which are about £60

thanks to europerformance as they have a picture with the shape of the pad

still not sure about the mintex though?

it doesnt look like i can get the mintex 1144/1155 or black diamond pads for the calipers i have?

it seems odd that i cant get the mintex 1144/1155 as i can get the mintex MDB2183.

    are the MDB2183 cheap pads?

they're the ones that come in the kit on ebay and the ones listed on AlexR's guide.

Ring Demon tweeks they will sort you out. Do you know the exact car model your brakes came from? As there are many versions of the 266mm brakes.

    I use ferodo DS2500 btw.
  12. #12
i've found the DS performance pads for £50

the cheapest i can find the DS2500 is £100

are they really worth double the money?

    will they last longer?

im gettin the mintex pad set off ebay, cant be that bad.. not expecting it to be great, but i cant even find any other alternative for my 306 xsi setup

I had mintex's on my OEM calipers, they were very good much better than std pads. Got OMP ones on the 266 setup and theyre obviously much better but cant tell how much of that is down to the disks themselves obviously as I fitted them at the same time.

Not sure they make em anymore though, I couldnt find replacement prices anywhere but OMP stuffs generally herder to find these days it seems.

they're not very good from what i've read.

it's taken me a good few hours today to find pads for mine.

it looks like my only option is the ferodo pads after looking on lots of websites.

from what i've read today the mintex pads included in the kits are not much better than the standard citroen ones.

which mintex pads did you have on the standard calipers?

as they do a few different ones, standard, 1144, 1155 etc

I notcied a def change over the shitroen stuff, you just need to warm em up a bit. I had the brake box ones off ebay not the proper uprated ones. Forgot to say about the OMPs too they squeek a fair bit till theyre warm

because the 307 1.4 uses 266mm brakes and the 1.6 and above uses 283mm.

that would explain the price difference.

is the ebay listing wrong then? it says the 1.4 1.6 and 2.0 have the same brakes

i've just ordered the ferodo ds performance pads for £50

i hope they are as good as they say they are.
