1.4 mods??

  1. #1
Buying a 1.4 westcoast saxo was think what could i do on it around few hundred quid in the engine ?? scrap air filter talk i know that any ideas on where to get inlarged throttle body?? n chips??
  2. #2
You wont get much for a few hundred quid matey, engine mods depend on how deep your wallet is.

A good starting point is full exhaust system with de-cat, then, enclosed air filter. Also depends how much power you want, have you thought about an engine conversion?

naw fromn n.ireland 17 first car insurance is already over 1500 for me so engine conversion outta question just wanna leave other 1400 16v sittin lol yeah when i say few hundred quid i mean just on engine mods,

Whats the dif from Forced air introduction and normal 57i kits from KnN
?? Name anything any price please

    Tahnks in advance

'normal' induction kits are open filters and will decrease power due to soaking up heat from the engine. enclosed filters keep the filter away from heat and ensure a supply of colder air through the filter and into the engine. personally i'd leave it at an enclosed filter and an exhaust, because you'll never see big bhp from a 1.4.

edit: and the westcoast is 1400 8v, not 16v.

Bmc cda is the best one id say. you will be looking at roughly £150.

yeah but i dont want major bhp just some extra this is the list ive made 4-2-1 manifold stainless and full system. "CLOSED"lol Airfilter, and a enlarged throttle body does the mk1 saxo have a throttle body or a carb? havent got mines yet lol

you don't need an enlarged throttle body for the power you'll be running, the standard one is more than adequate. as the manifold, like i said i'd keep my money in my pocket. if you want a little more power then go enclosed filter and a de-catted exhaust. but in the end it's your money. as for chips, i prefer mine with salt 'n' vinegar

Cheapest way would bestrip it out! Get rid of the bakc seats spare wheel ect and all the un-necesary(sp) items!

ok "smart" lads forget cheap for a second????

i agree with starkie. best way to up your power-to-weight ratio would be to strip the rear seats and plastic trim out, then if you fit some uprated brakes you'd have a quicker point-to-point car. but as for tuning the 1.4 engine- waste of money in my opinion. if you have a few hundred quid to spend, get an exhaust, filter and some bigger brakes, so that when you have a year or two's no-claims under your belt, you'll be ready to drop in a vtr engine.

did ya kno that carisma renault gt 5 1.4 turbo ran 370 bhp and a top speed of 170mph! crazy no?
  14. #14
r5 gt TURBO is a whole different ball game to a saxo westcoast. and 170mph? don't think so, not on the standard renault gearbox. and that bhp figure is a peak figure hit ONCE on a r/road at about 35psi. if you ran that much through an r5 turbo all the time then the engine would last about 5 minutes.
and remember this car was predominantly featured in max power...

no need for that at all mate!

if you want practicality - buy an focus or a megane...not a saxo!

yes stripping it out will give u a step up, as well as decat exhaust and enclosed filter. but you wont get much for £200ish!

and I assume your planning on telling your insurance company about the engine mods you'l be making?! lets hope u dont crash and kill someone eh!
  16. #16
    naw insurance is hard enough
  17. #17
not telling your insurance company about modifications has been covered many times on here before.
if you modify your car (especially performance enhancing mods such as the ones you wish to do to your car) and don't tell your insurance company, then as well as driving un-insured, it also makes you a grade-A prick.
  18. #18
This is correct. Can't afford insurance...dont get a car! Simple.

  19. #19
you cant afford the insurance...dont do the mods..like sean said..1 its illegal and 2 it just makes you a twat
  20. #20
it isnt technically illegal mate, but your insurnace company wont pay out in the event of a crash

your choice if you wana risk it
