Upgrading my brakes from standard 1.1

  1. #1
At the minute i still have the standard 1.1 breaks. Not sure on sizes, i just know they are pants and i dont trust them. I always break really early on approach to junctions and it ruins the confidence in my driving.

Any ideas on the most suitable upgrade at a reasonable cost?

get a set off a vt model
nice little improvment and avaialbe fairly easily off people upgrading there vt brakes

are they a straight fit? over steelies or need alloys?
  4. #4
    be a straight swap
might need a little spacer behind the steelie to clear (i did) but other than that there fine

What kind of prices am i looking at for a decent set of VT brakes? Wud you go get them from a scrappy?
  6. #6
can get em from a scrappy
seen the calipers go for as little as 30 quid
i would put new discs and pads in them so youd be looking just over 100 quid if you got cheap ones

What about the dealership, can you get the full package with pads and discs or will they charge over the odds?

Did you change your brakes yourself or did you take them to a garage?

i do most of my own work but im a faily confident lad with spanners
its not a hard job to do though

Hey man, easy to do yourself if you know how to bleed them etc.

I have a set of VT calipers from a 01 plate vtr which at the time of taking them off for my 266mm upgrade had done about 45k.

PM me if you want them!

    Cheers dude.

    Hi, I have a 1.1 aswell, and have vts rims on with tyres at 195 * 45 * 15,
would vt brakes fit straight on mine as the wheels are bigger, or would i need spacers etc? Thanks

Just get them off ebay plenty of people breaking saxos on there shouldnt cost much. New disks and pads just get some mintex ones

I've managed to get VT/106GTi brakes under normal 13" steelies without problems.

    Docsamty, you'll be fine.

I'm interested in this also. Is there any how to guides on here for them ?

I wouldnt go to the dealer, i priced them up for my car they wanted £50 a caliper so it would work out near enough £160 for new parts!

i bought mine off ebay for around £30 with good pads and discs.
i fitted them myself and its a big improvment.

as alex said, VT brakes with decent discs and pads will be fine for a 1.1

    saxo brakes are crap though
