   alright people,
   my cars going in for a full stainless this weekend and im wondering what the car is going to sound like ,any help?

   Do you have a vtr with the catalyst under the car then? Or is it the 98bhp engine with the catalyst in the manifold?

   not had the car long,so going to guess cat in the manifold.
   and as for back box i dont know yet just been booked in and choosing when im down there its getting done at exhaust uk.

   Right ok, well without any sort of spec what so ever its going to more or less impossible to say how loud it will be. Especially if your choosing the spec when you get down there.
   
   It will be louder than standard obviously but how loud, looks like you will decide.

    well what would be recomended by your self for the back box all i know is i want it 4 inch ,iv just to sort the car out and this is the first step.sorry for not being helpfull with specs .but im not sure what to have on the car because i dont know myself.

    why you want 4 inch mate? and guessing you are getting a custom one made up for it? what are your plans for the car and how is it going to be used?

    You will have to look at backbox designs when you get there by the sounds of it, if you want 4 inch then get 4 inch but you might find it abit loud and drowny tbh with not any real body to the sound.
    
    If it was me the max i would go is 3 inch, keep it toned down abit if you see what i mean. Keep it sleeper, you dont need a "BIG PHAT CAN" on the end of it. That is just my opinion though everyone is different.
    
    At the minute i have supersprint race backbox with centre, thats got a small bore on it of like 2.5" i think it is and it sounds the nuts when you boot it. My car is more sort of track style theme though so just depends what you need it for, that one suits me and the car etc.

    yeah know exactly where your comming from and your right about the big exhaust i agree somtimes they look daft,
    but the sound im looking for is just wanna here the engine growl if ya get me lol.
    but will just taking it up to the cat produce this sound?

    If your getting a new centre section and back box you will get a nice sound coming out mate yes.
    
    When you say "taking it up to the cat" i assume you mean manifold as you thought you had the 98bhp vtr and the catalyst for that is in the manifold so you would infact be replacing everything up to the bottom of the manifold and back.
    
    This will include 2 parts, centre section and backbox. Your standard centre will have another box in it known as a mid box which also acts as a silencer to help keep the noise down. You will probably get the option to not have a mid box in your new centre section if they are making it from scratch as it sounds. By taking this out you will get more noise ofcourse.
    
    My advice is just to think about what you want and what you dont want. A good sounding system is not always one that is hugely loud on idle or just while cruising around. So like the supersprint race and many other are reasonably nice quite humming on idle/cruising and then when you give it the boot it sounds awesome.

    yeah think thats the case with the center section. its a mk2 so i think it will be 98bhp
    i want it to just pur on idle and like ya say open up when i open it up. iv been quoted £280 for it all that sound bout right?

    Not really. Could've spent about £55 on a race system off kam then £120 for a Piper box.

    This is very true.....although both those items are mild steel too.

    If they are MAKING you a system then this is obviously going to be more expensive, coupled with the fact its is going to be stainless, this will increase the price further.
    
    If you really want a custom system then go for it. Personally i dont see what gain you will achieve performance and sound wise over something that is more or less off the shelf like the piper or supersprint systems at the level your saxo is at performance wise which i also assume is relatively basic?

    Slight gains maybe.. couple it with a manifold will benefit the system. A mild steel over stainless steel wont make any difference though.

    i would have had manifold done also but cant because of money but would it be a good next step for me to have it done or would an induction kit be more advisable
