R888's - On the road?

    Strongly considering getting a set of R888's for the saxo, i know they are road legal track tyres, but was wondering if anyone is using them on their daily drive??

    If so, what is the ride like?

    Average milage they will last? (obviously depends on driving style)

    Worth the money?

    definatly worth the money. I use them every day but if im honest my vts doesnt see the road that much anyways. Id say i got 3 trackdays out them and travelling to and from.
    My car is very stiff and you feel all the bumps on the road, also stripped out car the road noise is loud so balance it out with abit more exhaust and bodies noise

    I have mine on at the moment, and I would NOT recommend them for the road...

    So theres more road noise, especially when stripped, hopefully boost will outweigh that. But they are worth the money grip wise?

    I have a new set of parada spec 2's on at the moment, so i'll see how they go first, but do fancy trying the 888's at some point!!!

    Yes, get that boost up for the summer, as long as you have boost, nothing else matters.

    I've had a couple of close calls, and one of them was in the dry as well.

    They'll be stone cold when driving too, and i've found them MUCH harder to control / correct when things go a little pear shaped.

    id not use them on a daily driver...

    not good in standing water, need heat before they grip well etc..........

    need to be warmend to be stickey as ryan says.

    will wear very easy. use a good sprt tyre then have the 888's for track safest option

    I personally didn't get on with them even on track. Didn't give the feedback I wanted.

    its exactly that...i sometimes found myself overheating the tyres in the dry and looking for damp patches to cool them down.

    I highly rate them but you need to have a clear head and expect a loss of grip or an overload

    i used yoko a032rs on the road for a while chirst they was awesome even in the wet.

    as everyone else says, i wouldnt use them on the road apart from in the summer really! Best bet is to get a spare set of wheels and then swap the wheels when you need the R888's

    i've done the same. bought the supersoft compound lol. Heated up quickly and were very good. Later got the 048r which were even better. harder compound, but got to temperature faster than the 038r and lasted a long time (good suspension helped)

    you need to check your tyre pressures if you are overheating them easily.

    i dont know what people expect from these tyres....miracles?

    ive never had a problem with them... i make sure they have seen a bit of road before dumping the car into a corner as to be expected.
    these are semi slicks so they are going to "go" quickly, i wouldnt expect this form a t1r but they arent so...

    the bottom line is they are good as long as there is some heat in them.
    i think my r888 are better in the wet than t1r's are in the dry.

    and toad, didnt you have your "moments" when the tyres were new? that would be the releasing agent then

    The first instance was when I was driving to the Austec RR day the other week. I was 3rd in a convoy, and we approached a mini roundabout, nobody was going fast at all. I saw Tom (at the front) slide a little bit as he went round, then Duncan in front of me, did a little slide too, I slowed down a bit, and dide a huge slide, coming within a couple of inches of the kerb! Worrying, as my car is much lighter, went round slower, yet completely lost grip.

    sounds to me like a slippy island.. maybe diesel or something? as the other lads slid a bit also.

    for anyone thats interested i have 4x yoko a048 for sale (pm me) wich are a r888 equivelent. very good aswell.

    Might have been mate. I think my suspension is shit too...

    I'm looking for light rims mate, know any kicking about? Unfortunately I need to get rid of the 205 width r888's. Rubbing on the front too, and have knocked my arches out.

    dont know too any yet, ill let you know if i can get something.

    your probably too low then as i dont have problems and i havnt done many mods tbh. i only go off what i know. raise the car and get proper suspension.

    I think there might be some chassis differences between the s1 and s2 106 gti Danny. My car is lowered at the front by 35mm using Koni sports kit. The front tyres clearly don't fit under the arches. Anyway, lesson learned.

    its strange as when i was at oulton they were great once i got some heat into them. was it a cold day aswell at brands ryan?

    was a very very cold day with alot of standing water.

    dropped the t1-rs to about 22/24psi in the end at the rears and STILL couldnt get any heat into them.

    A megane R26R ran R888s and had alot of heat in them but heavy car, and the driver did say they were very nervous, my rear end was twitchy enough as it was.

    it doesnt help does it mate with the cold weather... good for boost powaa but for nothing else lol..

    ive tried the t1r's in wet and they are ok but nothing special. ryan you need some cr500 for wet, they are truly awesome in wet. (our xtr4 produced 1.4g in wet with these on)

    how did the r26r go then mate? did you get chance to go out with it?

    never saw the r26R when I was out, it didnt pass me nor I pass it..

    it came in once with the front tyres steaming like feck.

    My rear end was just far to twitchy in the sighting laps on R888s, and slightly better with the road tyres.

    I thought id rather go on the side of cauciousness and have a shell thats not bent.

    Even at Mallory in the Rain the A048's stood up really well

    Proxes T1R for the road
    R888 for the track on a medium compound ( they warm up better but dont last as long)
