VTS Engine Question...

  1. #1
Im still doing my coversion, and i wasnt given and alternator with the lump. The bit is still on the lump that allows you to tighten the alternator belt. Can i just unbolt the unit from my vtr lump and bolt it onto the vts?

    Cheers

Yes - have read somewhere it's lighter somehow ?

Oh right, so the bracket and that will just straight swap? You are rather helpful tbh

ive heard they are a slightly different fit but im sure with some jiggling it would go on no problem

Yes I believe so. I'm going to put my old 1.4 alternator brackets on my vts lump as i think th belt tension adjuster on mine at the moment is stuck solid.

Well put it this way - on my vts lump at mo, im running 1.4 alternator, with the 16v brackets, but the positioning of all the bolt holes, from memory, looked identical.

I've read on rallye register that the 1.4 alternator and brackets is a few kg's lighter than the vts alternator and brakets. Don't aske me how as I havn't weighed them, but as per rallye reg. . . .

What problems did he have ?

All I had to do was extend one of the alternator wires about 6 inches as the terminals were slightly different places on the 1.4 vs. the vtr alternator.

The alternators are the same according to GSF and Euro C P. Just the belts that are different. I noticed there is that roller on the 16v lump.

if im honest i remember him having problems with the bracket itself, forgive me though i may be completly wrong....when he gets talking about his rallye i switch off so may of heard him wrong

The roller is the tensioner (i think) mine is seized but the belt is a good tension so is okay.

It'll fit fine, just bolt it up !!

Ditto, mine hates it. We almost broke up over my engine conversion lol. She hates it with a passion. I managed to convince her that it was better on fuel so she calmed down a bit.

Its going bad, my car has had no engine for almost two weeks. All the people that had offered to help have stitched me. I havent even got the loom in yet. Getting depressed now. Especially when people who havent even attempted it before, do it in a day. Even the mechanic who was gonna do it is giving the run around. Im so desperate for help
