i need more powaaaarrrr

im starting to get soo pissed off with only having a puny little engine. i need a 16v lump and i need it fast but i have no money.

so i have the usual breathing mods induction kit,4-1,back box. what else can i do for more power? im so frustrated. i dont want the power for racing or any of that cary on just to get a bit more progresion on the road it takes ages to over take some one even if there doing less than the limit and im bang on it.

    Strip your car out.
  3. #3
    Buy a faster car?

    Wasted cash IMO.
  4. #4
it is stripped out but its the gf's car and she doesnt like the just 2 seats and a dash idea had it like that for about a month while i was sound deadning the car.
  5. #5
Strap a turbo onto the engine.
  6. #6
f you can't afford the 16v conversion, I doubt you can afford the insurance of making it faster?
  7. #7
Either a bigger lump.. but costs money. Green panel filter (increasing top end) lightweight exhaust, shed weight whereever possible. Some 1.1's have been known to keep up with vtr's to 60mph... baring in mind the 1.1 is uncomfortable with it completely stripped with weight reduction by the shed load and the vtr would have a full interior... have a look at snewhams thread for example..

I'm in the same boat but just going to fork out for a new lump bud come next year

There's always turboing etc but you're just looking at a waste of cash that'll probably set you back more than a new lump.

stripping it of weight is the most cost effective way of improving acceleration. fairs if you don't want to go this way it's not everyone's cup of tea You could look around for a cylinder head on ebay and maybe get it gasflowed if you knew a mate or someone who could do it on the cheap. Should make it gain a few more bhp. not much else you can do on a 1124 cc I'm in the same boat pal. Just save up your cash for a better engine

Yeah I've heard of some 1.1's with the blacktop engine being almost VTR pace with just exhaust & induction + some strippage being almost on par with the VTR. The blacktop engine seems to respond much better to even basic tuning

yeah ive got an enclosed simota broke the eclosure so need a new one. id love it stripped out but the missus dont like it damn women.lol not into turboing. will prob get a lump soon but its not just the lump id need id also need a rear beam change all the brake cables upgrade the front suspension then get it fitted. thought about asking a mate to add some tb's with 1.4 cams and a stand alone ecu just to be different.
  11. #11
1.4 can wouldn't do much ?! And tbs and standalone would be much more than a 16v lump - best to save u.
  12. #12
yeah will save thats the route id go for if i had lots of cash and wanted somthing individual instead of a turbo'd 1.1 or the usual s lump but the s lump is the quickest and cheapest with the best results
  13. #13
mate if its your missus's car why bother go buy your own keep it off the road and then you have all the time in the world to save up money and do whateva
  14. #14
    cant afford another car.
  15. #15
Get the inlet mani/ throttle body gas flowed, spencer does it on here noticable gains. New head, with cams?
  16. #16
dont think you get cams for 1.1's thought about that aswell.yeah seen the gas flowing but id have to buy another tb while he done it so i could run the car.
  17. #17
does spencer do inlet manifolds? it was my impression that he only did TBs?

I think you can, real mild one, im sure alex-vts said in a thread donkeys back
  19. #19
thatd be cool a cammed 1.1
  20. #20
    you got a lonk john?
  21. #21
a cammed 1.1 will not be very fast at all, even a turbod 1.1 may only be as fast as a VTR, do you intend on keeping your 1.1 or upgrading to a 1.4 or VTR/VTS?
  22. #22
not sure the way things are will prob end up keeping it as a 1.1. wont sell it cause the gf got if for her 18th but cant do any of the mods herself so i end up doing them.
  23. #23
so is the car yours or your GFs?

and if your keeping it 1.1 then fair enough, cams remap, and all the usual reathing mods may see 90bhp+

also try losing some weight from the car, i dont mean go crazy and rip everything out. Get rid of the spare wheel and carry tyre weld. Cut off the cage which supports the spare wheel. The material underneath the bonnet, etc
  24. #24
lol @ "my GF's car" bet she loves you lol
  25. #25
it was bought for her but ive taken over on it. as i drive it the most she just gives the odd opinion on what goes on as for stripping i have the rear seats out buckets all seatbelts out replaced with harneses.first mod i done was remove the spare wheel and cage.
  26. #26
have you touched the engine at all yet? or exhaust?
  27. #27
mate, look at willsy thread, the amount of work to go into the engine conversion on a 1.1 is loads, need a whole new engine mount welded. well that is the case for the mk1 alot of people dont actually no what has to be done and many just think it just a straight swap. if you got the cash get it done mate but just remeber it alot of work but will pay off
  28. #28
go on gumtree theres a vtr engine and box in aberdeen for £150 only 64k i think. http://aberdeen.gumtree.com/aberdeen/01/33173801.html

Wrong, sophia bush turbo'd a quicky with 1.1 lump in made 140bhp and beat VTS/Gti's
  30. #30
yeah quick upto 110mph maybe about 115mph and it would be toped out

Thats why i wrote MAY only be as quick as a VTR, meaning there are some exceptions.

but a vtr or vts would still beat it after 110 mph if that! got to remember its still a 1.1 so top end speed does not change, okay maybe a little it would but not matched to a vtr/vts

How often do you do over 100mph? Not many people do track days on a small number.
  34. #34
yea SOPHIA BUSH had a turbod 1.1 at 140bhp a 14psi with stock internals and blew the piston rings it was safe at bout 7 psi at 113bhp, in a 1.1 that is enough that is quicker than a vtr and maybe a vts cause its lighter
