stand alone ecu

can people who have had them fitted to their cars please tell me how much you paid to have it fitted and mapped.
i've got a dta s40pro with wideband lamda etc and would like it fitting to my car, however i'm not going to pay 1k (which is what i got quoted!) when the ecu nearly cost that!
failing that, can anyone recommend anywhere that will fit them? (south of bristol)

    cheers

I'm assuming from your username its a VTS.
Is it a single plugger, or 3 plugger. My guess is 3 plug as your profile says phase 2.

That'll be why its so expensive. Phase 2's have loads of fancy electronics - so you'll either need to do without some of the dash features, or get the DTA wired in in addition to your standard ECU. With the standard ECU controlling the dash, and the DTA doing everything else.

So gonna cost a few hours labour just to wire it in in the first place.

Then you've got to get it mapped. Since you've got a wideband with it - it shouldn't take too long. But they've got to map the entire rev range with igntion and injection values, as well as do an idle map, then correction map for air temp/water temp/voltage, as well as a cold start map. Not something that can be done in 20 mins.

And the more time you let them map the car for - the better it'll be (assuming they know what they're doing of course). Citreon spent thousands of hours mapping the car in the first place. For £800 in mapping fees you'll get 20 hours probably.

Cost me at least a grand to fit and map. Bare in mind that'll it'll go up if they encounter any problems - like fuel pump not up to the job, leak in vacuum pipe causing readings to be dodgy etc etc.

no, its definately a single plug ecu bud. so is the general price going to be around 1k then? even if i supply them with a base map?

TBH - they'll likely have a base map already.

If they don't, i'd try find somewhere else. As they either haven't dealt with the ECU before, or haven't dealt with a similar car. Either way - you'd be paying them to not only fit and map the car, but learn how to do one/both as well.

If its single plug - you should manage to pick up an adaptor loom i'd guess. Still £200 new, but at least you know your not paying for them to fit the ECU - just mapping.

But generally - take they're hourly rate and then it'll probably take a good 20 hours worth of mapping to get it good enough.

Ask around for other quotes, and don't be afraid to go further afield. Remember that it is going to result in how the car drives and how much you enjoy the car. I'd rather travel 300 miles round trip and pay a few hundred more - knowing the folk have experience with the KMS and Saxos - than go 10 mins down the road and never be happy with the car.

    thanks for your help mate.
100% sure its a single plug ecu!
i'll happily pay £200 for an adaptor loom, didn't know i could get one! where can i buy them?

should have got a predator standalone ecu, £550 fitted and free mapping!

is a bitch getting quotes to wire in a standalone, i was quoted £600 just to fit a omex and then £200-300 for a remap....!

i know, if i'd got the predator it would have been fitted long ago! i bought the dta ecu about 9 months ago and its still sat in my room. fail

oh well eh fella, make it your mission to get if fitted then!

does anyone know where i can get an adaptor loom then????????

I'd phone the usual suspects: GMC or QEP.

They're the most likely as they deal with both Saxos, and DTA.
After that just try a few DTA dealers. Though i'm pretty sure if GMC/QEP don't have one, they could make one for you.

    Hi there,

if you're looking at getting a loom made, and THEN getting it fitted and mapped, you may find the loom is £200-£250, and the fitting and mapping is another £250.

At this point, you could buy the Predator, fitted and mapped for £550, and then sell your current ECU (they do have a 2nd hand value)

    just a thought

    Kind regards
