vtr, strip out or not?

right, i cant decide what path to go down with my car, leather seats, nice install ect ect or strip it out.
it is my daily driver but im tempted by the performance gains of a properly lightweight car, i dont really drive long distances often anyway, and having no back seats is a good excuse for not giving lifts

anyway, was wondering if the performance will increase dramatically or is it not really worth it? and will the car be all cold/loud/rattley if i strip it? any advice or views from people would be good

Agreed with pjm. If you're doing track days all the time and the car won't be used on the road much then yeah, why not strip it.

I couldn't have a stripped car personally.

i didnt notice a difference at all on my old vtr

sounds like a bit of a crap idea then, yeah a stripped out sax with a cage would make me look like a poser lol.
if theres no real gains its not worth it anyway. id only do it if it made the car significantly faster and better handling.

yeah good point, all the weight (engine) over the front and nothing in the back probably isnt good, lots of understeer lol? or not enough grip on the back wheels so slidy/twitchy lol. didnt think about that

wouldnt bother tbh. ive done it to mine and it handle better, really light and nimble and so easy to control if the back end steps out (practically corrects itself) but tbh i dont think its really any quicker (just ALOT louder) and after the initial novelty period of about 2 weeks has worn of you wish you didnt throw all the interior trim away like i did lol

i love my vtr stripped. Just need to get my vts engine in it and save up for a better suspension setup and it will be more or less where i want it. I love the noises you get and how you can feel much more of what the car is doing.

i would say no (and i strip every car i own tbh)

most people pussy strip there cars and leave all the heavy stuff in
a properly stripped car is heavily impractical
youve got no carpets so in the wet the floors well slippy to get in and out
you get more noise
get a few good smells of petrol and oil
no heater
no electrics

and unless you even it out by removing weight up front (in the engine bay) it gets rather unbalanced and twitchy

a cage will even the weight but is a bad idea in a road car tbh

i do like 3 miles a day, thats it.
car otherwise is just used for some fun / track days.

Stripping is the way forward (for me)

im not a hardcore stripper.......lol.

i proved that stripping can make a massive difference n a car with my 1.1 but tbh that thing was beyond what 99% or people would do to there car
atm i still class my gti as not fully stripped and i only have a dash a little sound deadening behind and one seat and harness
its shit like the airbag ecu and sterio wiring ect that all add up
with 4 people we could nearly pick the whole car up off the ground
but driving round in it was a pain
it leaked it froze up it had no heater no central locking no nothing

and people who got in the car (when i put a passenger seat in) were just like wtf and wanted to get out

sorry about the mini rant but the whole stripped fashion pisses me off
if your gonna use the car by all means strip it out

i personnaly hate people who strip their cars and dont track it. you are defo a twat in my eyes if that is what ya do. mine is striped and i use it everyday yet it is a very handy track car, i pull up at oulton park the same i do at tesco and smash cars with 40k price tags so then who is the twat lol, rant over

For a start buckets and harnesses can effectively be unsafe without a roll cage due to the nature inwhich you are held in

duno about easy, i couldnt get the rear seat belt out of the the hole it goes through on the rear panel so i just sawed the panel in half to get the belt out, at that point i didnt want to removed the seat belts as i didnt no whether i wanted to but the interior back in but once the saw came out it sorta made the decision for me lol

if you remove the rear belts (couple of nuts) the panels just unclip so will be easy enough

Id also mount the harnesses better, having one high and one low isnt the best idea imo, you want them both at similar heights.

I'm going to be stripping mine soon, once i get funds for buckets and harnesses etc. because it'll handle better, break better, look better, perform better, and mpg is better.

And it is my daily drive, but in the future i do plan to do some local track days etc.

How do you expect it to help in a roll, they are piss weak, and dont mount substancially, if you roll they are actually more dangerous due to the fact that they can snap and then fly about EASYER!

Dont need to mount it there, Mount them to the rear seat areas, both of them! This area is stronger due to the fuel cell being around there init

Cages dont crumple very easily either. Hence why when you roll alot of the drivers safety cell is intact

They are not strong, hence why they dont have FIA/MSA approval

Except I wont be selling my SD cage thats going in, and the omp is sold allready

How do you expect it to do anything substancial, when its design isnt for safety.

Think about it, the type of metal used, the mounting points etc.. Like I said chances are it is more DANGEROUS in a crash than helpful for safety.

My sd cage i got second hand, its £845 new.

Can get OMP cages for £4-500.

brakes you can get gti-6/266mm set ups for not alot from scrappys init

(im a student to)

A proper cage will have a safety cell for the occupants, which is why a saxo rolling with a cage isnt a major issue interms of safety, just see foggys progress thread

Cant see it being much, if any more than standard, depending how far you go with the strippage.
But it'd be safer and handle better, so it'd still end up quicker anyway.
