hi just wondering how much standard valves can handle and if you reccommend any uprated ones cheers
BHP how much can standard valves handle?????
-
#1
-
#2standard valves are perfectly fine.
I know of boosted applications with big power still on standard valves.
The only need for uprated ones is if you go for bigger ones, and then you have to have the head etc.. to suit them imo -
#3cheers mate well am hoping to be running between 240 and 300 bhp dependin on the turbo i use will it be ok for that power?
-
#4Yes, for that power standard valves will be fine, as said above only need for uprated / different ones is if your going for a big valve head setup with larger valves and head work
-
#5cheers lads just checkin before the rebuild next week cheers
-
#6another think to consider, would be engine rev limit. if your having i really high rev limit set you can get valve bounce if the valve springs are not strong enough to close the valve before the piston comes back up.
-
#7sorry for high jacking the thread, but does anybody know where the best place is to get bigger vales and springs for a vts and what make are decent? thanks
-
#8speak to qep.
search google for QEP -
#9cituning do them i believe
-
#10cheers mate not really disussed what the limit will be as such but will keeop that in mind cheers
-
#11if using a turbo you wont need a limit above 7500 really, and standard vst/gti valve spring will be ok.
Im running 440 bhp and 7200 rev limit on mine on normal valves and gti/vts springs -
#12wat spec you running?
-
#13spec isnt being put up im affraid, on my last spec i put up i found too many people wanting to copy it, so sold the lot and brought new setup.
-
#14haha either your joking or your well sad ^^
-
#15Why sad, that werent the only reson i sold my old spec, it would of only been good for around 380 at the fly.
-
#16lol why not share it?
-
#18i was only wanting to compare mine to see what it shaped up like but i understand where your coming from
-
#19What sort of power are you running mate?
Williamvts its not that i have done and spent alot in research this time around ( an i mean alot) this is why. -
#21This is my current spec pal not sure what bhp it will be running to be honest it was 182 a 6psi but i have since added many more mods to this anyways what bhp do you reckon it will be heres the spec:

#23i respect your choice saxmad, thats a fiar 1, it sort of takes the achievement away from u just to find some cheaped out on the research and copied your plans...
-
#24its a fse motorsport fuel pump s for the injectors it just sys gmc uprated injectors (iwp043) but the recipt has them at £68 an injector hope this helps
-
#25im guessiong buy the part number 430c injectors, My mate who has mapped my car has seen around 290 at the wheels but has maxed out his injectors lol. So it would be safe to say you would achieve around this figure.
-
#26I dont see whats sad about not wanting to share, if you spend alot of time researching/developing a set up why give it away and let everyone else have it with no work..
whats the point in that? -
#27lol it would be nice was thinkin of a dp inlet manifold aswell but too pricey at the minute
-
#28290 @ wheels with 430's is pretty good. Thats for 16v TU? I'm just wondering what i would max out at with 480's i've recently purchased, and going by the online calculators its giving much lower power values but obviously for 80% duty.
-
#29Yea thats out of a 16v tu lump mate. The injectors are maxed out now though so going up to 690cc i think.
-
#30dont want to go too big on injectors. they tend to run best when at 80-90% their duty cycle at max power.
-
#31Thats nice to hear though, i was worried that even the 480cc picos wouldnt be enough for me, but i'm not looking at more than that bhp @ wheels so i should be fine.
-
#33just found out i have to buy new rods as theones i already have are too small on the connecting part of the piston :@ looks like a trip to cituning
-
#34O what size are they? 18mm small end?
-
#35yeah and the pistons are 20mm b*****d like
-
#36Thats a bit of a sh*ter. You can get pistons with 18mm gudgen pin if that helps. Other to that most are as standard pistons are at 19.46mm
-
#37dean, how come his are 18mm?? i thougt they were all supposed to be 19.46 apart from arrow rods?
-
#38i got the pistons from prima so hopefully the rods they hav will match up with them but shouldnt be to bad like just more time to wait what teething problems have youhad with yours?
-
#39lol what havent i had wrong with mine lol, you get loads alongthe way mate. or you will do something then decide a better way of doing it.
What make are your rods?
Danny there is another company that does 18mm small end iirc. -
#40with regards to sharing info and plans, etc if everyone in the world shared the same veiws as saxmad then saxmad himself would not have been able to do any research himself cos it would all have never ever been written down research relies on information sharing.
-
#41This thread isnt about me opening my spec up to the forum, if you have a problem with it pm me! Otherwise if cant stay on topic dont clog up the thread. Its about valves etc.
-
#42they were from an american company http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PEUGE...spagenameZWDVW the rods in question what problms did you come across mate? did you get your plug lead conversion from dp?
-
#43Have you checked all other dimensions on the rods?
What do you mean by plug lead?
mine wasnt nessecary problems just bits i done then improved so took double the amount of time lol. Wiring was a bitch to do though. -
#44standard valves can take big bhp and boost if mapped right to.
End of the day dean can keep his spec secret if he wants to, he doesn't have to go around going my cock is bigger than your look at my spec. Besides if people actually looked into researching boosting a 16v it is a lot of work not just !"ooo shiney parts" -
#45mean youve not got a coil pack on yours have you?? justgonna sell the ones i bought and buy some from prima where i got the pistons from a reckon
