EGR removal question

  1. #1
nyways i got my EGR blanking plate yesterday and went to fit it today.

has anyone got photos of what they removed? and what the pipe leeds to on the passenger front behind the bumper?

also will it bring the engine management light on?

it goes to a pump in the fronto f the wheel arch, pass corner of bumper.
it wont bring ecu light on.

does this actually even do anything, ive heard it does absolutely bolox all
  4. #4
I just cut the pipe as low as I could get it..
  5. #5
you need to block it off as it goes into the exhaust ports.
    no, it doesnt do anything.

Any particular reason to take it off? I have bought a blanking plate already..... just jumped on the good ol bandwagon cos everyone was buying them... lol
(Though im not normally one for being a sheep haha)

But whats the theory behind removing the EGR? Is it a case of its does nothing so shouldnt be there?!?! Why did Citroen fit one? Purtely for emissions? But if its only on for a few seconds at start up on a cold engine I cant see what difference it would make to emissions overall.... hmmmm

i bought one to tidy the engine bay up lol but my work mate said the fuel consumption would go up and that the engine management light would come on so god know but il report if i notice any difference

Keep following the pipe until you get to the pump, then remove that too.

    No, no, no.

As Williams has already said, the engine management light will NOT illuminate. It's not an EGR valve either, it's a device which pumps air into the intake to help warm the CAT during start up. It's all to do with the tighter emission laws that came in, as it apparently helps reduce CO2 levels during the start up... In theory, it could help performance by removing it, but it would be a very small amout if any.

lol well i dont need it then because i got rid of the Cat so happy days, MOT is not till November

If you run with a CAT then that's a good idea.

it doesn't recirculate exhaust gases, so not an EGR valve.

all it does is pump fresh air into the cylinder head for the first 10-20secs to help with emissions.

i took mine off, no lights came on, ticked over fine and ran same as with it on.

you need to remove the piece in front of the cam covers, then follow the pipes down to under the wheel arch and remove all the pump its self and bracket. then just use the piece of steel you bought to blank off the hole on the side of the head

    job done.

oh and unplug the pump and put the disconnnected wire somewhere where it wont get wet and is secure. thats all i did,

i just fitted a head that didnt use it so had to remove it.

    Ditto...

Where do you get your EGR blanking plates from for the VTR? THanks

i understand that if you remove this it does not send on the ecu light, but what if its not working, it seems to be what my fault code is reading

your nearly right about what it does .
the extra air that is pumped in makes the lambda probe think its lean ,so it richens up and makes car run better while on strt up --thats all it does nothing else ,just a way to run it richer +still be within emission spec vwhen cold so it idles + drives better from cold start
