Rear beam swap

#2easy as mate.
done 2 now.
In the middle of refurbing one to stick on mine.
If your doing a direct swap looking at 2 hours work.
Its 4 bolts holding the axle on then, handbrake cables (few minutes to detach)
then unbolt brake lines.
need 2 axle stands.
few jacks
brake line spanners
decent rachet and socket set.
can go into more depth if you want but you simply asked if its easy. -
#3will i be need double depth sockets at all? yeah its a direct swap abs disc beam for another abs disc beam. You know what the size of the brake line unions are? any help is appreciated

may as wel get the 10mm - 12mm spanner and 9mm - 11mm spanner from halfords.
Need 1 double length socket to get to the axle nuts as the bolts fairly long, just a standard long socket which you get in a set will do, iirc its an 18mm or a 19mm
piss easy straight swapping it mate
there is blue clips for the abs around the axle you will see them they just unclip.
Best thing is to just dive in and get going imo. -
#5Gav iv got to do mine this week, praying for good weather, get some pics up to add to the thread on shed

Thanks steve

-
#8nice ill be going out to get some more tools then
-
#9cant think of anything else you need, but the brake line spanners are a worth while investment,
-
#10brake lines on the back are 11mm and the bleed nipple is 8mm
-
#11Iirc Alex sayed that you can get the beam off without having to take the brakes apart from the brake lines, saving the hassle of bleeding them etc when refitting, just requires some thinking
-
#12yeah you can take the calipers off the rear, the brake line brackets off the beam etcQuote:Iirc Alex sayed that you can get the beam off without having to take the brakes apart from the brake lines, saving the hassle of bleeding them etc when refitting, just requires some thinking
your choice really i find it eaasier to take the brake lines off and just re bleed the brakes.
Never removed rear calipers yet. -
#13Steve/Anyone, If I were to whack a VTR beam on a 1.1 would this become more difficult? It's not got the ABS things like on a VTS so I don't have to worry about that, would there be any other potential problems etc?
-
#14should just go straight on mate.Quote:Steve/Anyone, If I were to whack a VTR beam on a 1.1 would this become more difficult? It's not got the ABS things like on a VTS so I don't have to worry about that, would there be any other potential problems etc?
Not sure if the 1.1 axle has a bias valve or not???
if not then you may need new brake lines, alex_vts will be able to confirm as sure hes swapped one.
But should just bolt straight on, will need new handbrake cables £12 iirc as they are different looking at the drum axle i have in my garage that i am stripping down to put disc arms on it.1 user thanked this post: -
