im considering starting a lil business on flocking interiors eg dashs center consoles etc and i just want to know how much demand for it there is so if anybody is interested post a reply any comments welcome
  2. #2
how much would it cost roughly mate?
  3. #3
well if you take it to profesionals its over 100quid so i was gunna say bout £50 for a dash
  4. #4
if you can post up pictures of your work then yes i will be intrested.

Also you will more than likely need to supply some dash boards as not everyone wll be able to be without there dash for a little while
  5. #5
what about if he got the dashes then they exchanged them plus the £50 is that not a good deal also
  6. #6
not quite sure what you meen mate?

All im sayin is he is in liverpool and im in newcastle. so would take a while to send and then receive my dash back...

Did you meen liek him source a dash, flock it, send it to me, then me send him my dash??
  7. #7
what i mean mate is he gets a dash from scrapyard or summet then flocks it then sends it to you for £50 and once you take out ur old one send it to him so he can do the same again n again so hes nout out alot of cash for dashes

  13. #13
right well this is only in the idea stage and if i do start it up it wont be for about month because i need some more equipment. but that was my plan ill source a dash so you order what colour you want it done and ill do it (you will have to do your research on colours if you want specials that i carnt get hold of) but here are some pictures of my dash that i done and didnt have all the proper equipment so yours should look even better !!!!!!

yeh when i get all my equipment ill prety much be able to do any parts dash, center console + acssories (heater surronds etc), pillars, subwoofers, custom surronds prety much anythink with a hard surface. this is english flocking btw rally style not like what you see on american cars were every strand is uniformed, english flocking is not uniformed because its origanal purpose was to stop sun glare maybe in the future i mite start doing american stlye but atm i carnt afford £900 for a electrolisis machine.

im keen keep us posted id just be looking at black blue and silver is this pos
  19. #19
    yeh black and silver is possible the colours i can get my hands on are listed below;
    black,lite blue and dark blue
    gold, silver,dark grey
    red, pink, orange
    purple yellow
    lite green, dark green
    and white
these are colours that i have sourced up 2 now and a rough price is £50-£60 depending on how cheap am going to get all the material and glue for but carnt realy see it being more than sixty to be onist. when i start your in charge of postage as it wont rele be cost effective for me but i dnt mind if you would want to drop it off in person as i could do it there an then as it only takes a few hours. this would still be cheaper than taking it to the pros!

I think you will find that all the uk professionals use electrostatic machines. The quality difference is chalk and cheese

Personally I'd look at saving up for a proper machine. The electrostatic machines will give a far more even coating. I can see flaws in the flocking where its a bit on the thin side around the more complicated edges. It may be ok for personal use but with a business you need lots of happy customers to grow and quality will be very important to your reputation.
If you can match the high quality of the top flockers at a lower price then you are onto a winner. With low overheads you should be able to recoup the money relatively quickly.

i am very interested in having a dash flocked in red and seeing as im not too far away could do it in a day?
  30. #30
you can see thin spots in my dash because i never used a spray gun not because of electrostatic all that does is make the fibres stand up on end, coverage is down to how evenly you put the glue on and how good you are with a spray gun! if you do your reasearch you will find that many company that do this professionaly dont use electrostatic equipment because it has a alot more shiny apperance which is NOT flockings PURPOSE!!!!!!! i will be starting in around 3-4 weeks like i said i havent got my prices fully worked out yet but they wont be expensive!!!!

so the company i used which does dashboards for the wrc teams, which incidentally uses the electrostatically charged method is getting it all wrong then?

if you do it without the proper machinery, people will be disappointed, and people will not pay.

    thats the fact of life
