What Width Lightweight Wheels To Buy 15inch

  1. #1
think i am going to end up having to buy some lightweight wheels brand new.

    got a choice of

    6.0 x 15
    6.5 x 15
    7.0 x 15
    8.0 x 15

What is standard width of VTS wheels?

Will it make a difference on what width i get?

be running 195/50/15 Toyo R888 tyres on them.

Any in depth help would be great, rather than a random width choice

    standard is 6.5 iirc.

    none on ebay?

8 will be too wide for a 195 itll stretch

i would go 6j if your after weight (i run 6j with a 195 as does ryan)
    7j would be fine too

any advantages of 7j over 6j or visa versa? or over 6.5j
  5. #5
    6j is a bit lighter
7j speads the tyre slightly (no real difference though)

6.5j is just in the middle so lighter than a 7j but less tyre pinch than a 6j
    its a tiny difference

tempted to go with 6.5j happy medium.

    Done some googling.

Most people say, it will stretch the tyre more giving more steering response, just dont go to wide as you will be driving on the tyre sidewalls.
But also wide you run the risk of "curb rash" lol

id say thats a reasonale call tbh

cant you just buy a wider tyre? or am i being stupid? lol

surely the wider the tyre, better grip?

then you have the dilema of what width rim to run.

i have decided what tyre size i want, but dont know what width wheel to get, think you have missed the point of my thread lol

surely its best just to run the widest wheel possible and putting the best fitting tyre on it?

or is there a point when the extra rubber is useless and youre just carrying around extra weight?

    no its not.

    Hence my thread

pointless running much wider than 195 on a saxo as it will just rub on the arches.

plus the tyres are more expensive.
Then you have the increased load on the driveshafts etc etc to think about.

Any way any more advance's on 6.5j or 6j or 7j lol

instead of studying cisco i will study wheel widths tonight lol

go for 6.5. 195 on 6inch isnt ideal with 888's. 6.5 wont rub and is about pretty much ideal for balance of grip, less chance of rubbing and tyre fitment. also standard width for GTi and s2 rallye is 6inch. The wider the tyres the more grip for cornering and braking but more drag on the road...

    vts rims are 6inch wide...

You should go 7" just so you can buy these wheels

    obviously not......
already chosen the wheels i want.
