De-wipering rear..

  1. #1
Ok guys i just wondered eaxactly what are the disadvantages to de-wipering the rear of the car... i always imagined it would be terrible for heavy rain etc... any ideas???
  2. #2
im in the same boat fella not sure weather its practical tbh...
  3. #3
If your unsure. then dont use your wiper for a while and see how you like it. If you can cope with it. then remove it
  4. #4
its fine to be honest, as long as you have too working side mirrors then its fine, i always carried my wiper blade in the boot so if it got wet and dirty, i just jumped out, quick wipe and its fine tbh
  5. #5
yeah exactly you imagine it looking pretty good in the sunshine then in the heavy rain greatly regretting ever doing it... and those circumstances where your on the road and get a load of crud kicked up and you can barely see out of the rear window... you'd be greatly greatly regretting it then surely???
  6. #6
iv had mine off for almost a year and its fine as above just needs a little wipe now and again to get rid of road salt and stuff
  7. #7
My main ideas were to use a boot popper behind what would have used to be the wiper... or is there any other way to do this without taking the wiper off... and if so which is the best idea?
  8. #8
what and use the hole from the where the wiper was to mount the popper thing? do they not do a solenoid kit somewhere so u can have an internal boot release?
  9. #9
tbh if yourve even drove a van youll know how it is not to see out the rear window, i find it a little better tbh and thats without view at all, i have never de-wipered any of my cars but it would really depend on what you feel comfortable with, bearing in mind the only plus is that it looks a little better/smoother
  10. #10
well i read somwhere that solenoid or not you use the hole on the inside to mount it and on the outside a rubber gromit or something of a similar persuasion to fill it???

As Scottish said^^ I have mine done so aslong as you have both mirrors working then you got no probs...
  12. #12
and i cant say i've ever drove a van and yeah the smoothness attracted me to the idea in thee first place
  13. #13
oh right i thought u ment moving the external boot button in the number plate light thing and moving it sorry misunderstood that if i rember the wiper motor is bolted on so could u not use those mounts for the solenoid kit? and yer mines got a rubber grommit in where the wiper once was.
  14. #14
im certainly toying with the idea but i definately want install a popper for the boot... any idea's on this??? with or without the removal of the rear-wiper?
  15. #15
ah thats ok lol its not like i even begin to understand what im really talking about haha... i definately want to install the popper... is it better to use a solenoid is it?
  16. #16
only thing i dont get is whats wrong with the orignal boot lock button? iv never tried my mate put one on his mini i think. its a simple idea i suppose, theres one on my fiesta but thats not got a handle so its quite helpfull in that respect
  17. #17
take the wiper off and rain-x the window.
  18. #18
Yeah i see what you mean... i really don't know what to do mate... boot popper and de-wiper or not... i certainly don't wanna make the wrong decision??
  19. #19
Rain-X whats that when its at home buddy??
  20. #20
stops rain from settling i think? take the wiper off and get a grommit then decide from there having no rear wipers never been a problem for me just think how many saloon cars come without wipers..
  21. #21
no rear wiper isnt gonna make a difference hardly unless you let it get super super dirty or it is hammering down with rain really bad other than that theres no difference at all, i drive a van aswell with no back windowand tbh i barely notice cause i dont use my rear view mirror
  22. #22
True true... any idea's where i can get some of this rain-x stuff from then fella's and over the next few weeks i'll give it a go...
  23. #23
wouldent do it lol i like to see out that back of my car you rear window will get welll dirty too
  24. #24
done mine today and tinted the window. trust me tint the window and de wiper looks much better. need a grommit.... where would i get one from? Hardware store?

Theres one in the boot floor that doesnt do anything. that just about fits.
  27. #27
Just keep it clean, i clan my car once a week, tbh even in really bad weather i can still see out of it, also use rain-x repells water and dirt
  28. #28
ive had no problems at all
as pred said, even in heavy rain you can still see out of it
    its worth doing imo
  29. #29
to be fair m8 once youve rainexd the back window you can still see a fair amount even if its piin down
  30. #30
being a motorbker and a driver, i know how important it is to have a view out the rear window... but in this case, fuck practicality and went for looks!
you get used to not using your wiper anyway, and i put a heavy wax coat on my rear window when i wash it, so the rain slides off... and yes it gets dirty as fuck, but cloth, wipe and sorted!
  31. #31
this has made my decision too, i think i'm gunna do it
    where can we get rain-x?
  32. #32
does anyone know which grommit from the boot you can use then?

or is it a cheap buy from halfords? how would they know what size?

    cheers
  33. #33
when pikeys decided to bash the fuck outa my car. they also broke my rear windscreen washer arm off. So i took it off and now i wana take it out and wack a grommit in there. im also trying to find out what ryan just said. thanks
  34. #34
its not bad even in the pouring rain
you can still see cars behind you etc
  35. #35
Why don't you measure the hole? Then you'll know what size it is...
  36. #36
yh im intrested in the grommit in the boot were is it ???? saves buying one lol
  37. #37
the gromit is in a pack from halfords, 19mm 22mm & 23mm. its the 19mm one u want, costs about £2 or £3, looks much better, tried the boot gromit but they kept falling out and letting water in. defo worth a couple quid.
  38. #38
best way to take the wiper off looks so much better an smoother
  39. #39
Yeh mate i did mine yesterday, easyyy to do.

  40. #40
Makes the car look really slick and suttle, the saxo rear wiper is useless any way so it is the best option to get it off, just dont crack the rear window while doing it like my mate did, to say i never laughed so hard in my entire.... Looks the bollox mate
  41. #41
i did mine yesterday mate and used a grommet out of the boot fits perfect its a squeeze to get in but it goes in and it looks nice lads
  42. #42
I did mine earlier after reading about that plug thing in the boot. Really easy to do if u got a junior hacksaw, took 10mins tops!! And looks an awful lot better too, on a black car with blackened badges and smoked lights really sets it off well

  43. #43
why does everyone chop it off with an hacksaw lol its a few bolts lol andf jobs a goodf n lol it took me two mins to take mine off the orther day a bolt and a few bolts holding the motor on lol thats it lol no need for hacksawing everyone lol
  44. #44
lol yeah im not a dab hand with a hacksaw so im gunna certainly use the undoing bolt method, motor wise, for the boot poper itself, any ideas, wiper-motor ive been told, effective or not?
  45. #45
mines de wipered, i thought it would be hassle at first especially during heavy rain but its fine, i suppose having it limo black would cause more problems!!
  46. #46

  47. #47
i like the sound of that might try it, whats this popper u keep posting about?
  48. #48
a boot poper to opern the boot mine is smoothed off at the bk so i havent got any boot lock but iv got a lil bluce button on the dash press it and the boot opens its just a sloinoid in the bk what pushes the boot lock open easy done i think my boot solinoid is off a ford mondoe just wack it on wire it up and jobs a gd n
  49. #49
I've never regretted taking mine off any car i've had. It's not needed and usually makes the back end a fair bit smoother/cleaner looking. Free mod that can have a huge effect.
  50. #50
mint stuff! where is this bung found then?
  51. #51
mine was in the boot on the boot floor there are a few just try them for fit , mine was tight mate but it went in
  52. #52
i did mine a while ago and as you said, cheap mod that sets the car off. I dont find not having it a problem, i had a vectra sri that didnt have a rear wiper so i was already pretty used to it lol

a boot popper off a mondeo??? how much that set ya back mate? might do that one

  57. #57
